Caliper nipple leaking ...
I didn't torque my caliper bleed nipples down because i didn't know the spec and didn't want to OVER a tighten them and damage the calipers...
after my second session I saw a little drizzle of brake fluid coming from said bleed valves (around the threads). ^%*!? .. so not only did it damage the paint on the calipers slightly but now I notice a little sponginess in the brakes. when I get on them, they brake great ... but it's a little squishy and inconsistent. that is probably partially my fault because I'm inconsistent myself but I do think that as there was enough space for fluid to come out, I bet I got some air back into the system. am i screwed? it doesn't seem BAD, I tightened the valves quite a bit more and the car did fine in the next few sessions but ... has anyone had this happen? got a fix ? I'm going to bleed the brakes a little and see where that gets me tomorrow ... any input appreciated

It is not a big deal, you just tighten them. However, if you strip them, then you will need to replace the bleeders, that is not a big deal either. Mine leak too when I get them really hot, but only very little. The important thing is not to strip them, not notice it and go to the track. So, make sure you know how much to tighten them

Once seated, add 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn. If they leaked, you might want to re-bleed the brakes as air as gotten in. No torque wrench needed, but it's around 55 inch-lb of torque. "inch" not "foot"

Mine did the same thing, no big deal, tighten it up. I also have four Oxford Green calipers now hehehe

tightened everything down, bled the brakes after the last session and went back at it the next day. i don't know if i was just less confident at that point or what, but the pedal seemed to have a lot of travel. just once i hit the brakes and i felt a hard-stop of the pedal but poor stopping, not sure what that was about? i let off and applied again and it was fine. all along it seemed like the pedal travel was a little long but seemed to resist fade very well overall.
thanks guys.

I think you are describing the infamous "ice pedal" phenomenon.
One version of this phenomenon: http://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-g...on-street.html |
