1400 BDA Turbo, similar to what ended up in the RS200, albeit that was in 1800 guise.

Bit misleading to refer to it as just an Escort engine, sure the block was developed from the Kent, which was fitted to almost all smaller Fords, right up to around 2002 (though never in 1400cc guise AFAIK), but in BDA guise it was only found in the RS1600 and RS1800.

Think they used the 1300cc Crossflow block bored out to 1400CC. One of my mates had a 1.3L MK2 Escort hence the reference but yes used in many other fords as well.

Sorry, my (slightly pedantic) point was that it's a BDA, which is much more special than the base Kent. All BDA's are based on the Kent block iirc.

What was the thing on the dash that he was turning? Brake bias maybe? or Boost?

1300cc bored to 1400 & designated BDH. Fantastic little engine. A very good frien of mine has a genuine Zakspeed Capri road car.
