Needing some suggestions...

Situation:
I purchased a 335i 2008 back in December and everything was great up until a couple weeks ago. I started getting the orange engine graphic with the motor half full accompanied by less performance. I took the car to the dealership and they informed me that my turbos were bad (something to do with the wastegates) After some research I found that there is a factory warranty on the turbos for 82k miles or 8 years which ever comes first. Well, just my luck... I am 68 miles over the 82k mark... so now I am trying to weigh my options by identifying what they are...

I only have DPs on the car and a JB4 on hand to be installed if that helps at all.

Well if you're stuck having to pay for new turbos out of you own pocket, just take the opportunity to go with upgraded turbos. Maybe some rb turbos

Or argue the fact that the problems been persistent and see if your SA well backdate you 100 miles.. I've heard about cool SA's helping people out in situations like this, or even write BMWNA and see if they can help.. I'd exhaust all other options before coming out the pocket.. Especially with a known warrantied issue... Just my opinion..

Get aftermarket. Cheaper depending on the stage and better. Look at Vargas and RB.

Well.... that backdating idea backfired like a shotgun with rock salt to the face. The SA almost shit a brick thinking that I was implying to commit warranty fraud. Which I had no clue that is what it would be considered since they go off of the time the car was brought in and not when the appointment was scheduled. ( I was well under the warranty when I scheduled the appoint a week ago, and I drive 40+ miles to work everyday...) So yeah....

Yeah... Its not looking good. I also have a GWC extended warranty that came included with the car since I bought it at a third party dealership but the SA told me that they aren't responding to any of their requests for an adjuster to come out to look at the car. Just not my day...

Just trying to see whats possible...does anyone here know how the dealer determines the warranty mileage on a problem part? I have searched the Warranty and service booklets and extended service document pertaining to the turbos but I haven't seen where it says specifically how. I was told that they go off when the car was brought in, but after thinking about it doesn't the computer log when the error first shows up with the mileage and date (a friend confirmed that for me) if it wasn't cleared?

Its logged once they do a key read of the car as when it enters the service department. It doesn't matter if the code triggered miles before you get there. BMW warranty is strict on the 82k extended warranty. Your only hope is to get it GOODWILL by BMW North America, but if they agree then you will have to most likely pay 50% which may cost you more than if you were to take the car to someone else to fix it.

might as well just go the upgraded route. it'll be alot less headache then to fight with the dealer and warranty place. if money isn't really an issue id go vargas stg1 or rb's.

Its been over a week now... still going back and forth with the warranty company. The dealership is being way more helpful now that I am dealing with a more "attentive" SA, but even with that the warranty company is constantly asking for more and more things to be done before the approve the work.

I so would do this but its too late... the Dealer started "work" by taking the turbos off for the warranty company to come and take a look at the FAILED turbos. Mind you they are covered by contract if there is indeed a failure.... sigh... all this time wasted and now im stuck ridding a motorcycle everyday. Never realized how much mid day showers suck until I got caught in one on tues.

I don't see why BMW NA won't goodwill the work, I mean you're only 60 miles out of warranty. I've heard people getting goodwill work done many times.

After looking at the turbos, the techs found that one of the turbines seized and that had nothing to do with the wastegate rattle, which is what the extended warranty addresses, so I am not covered by that warranty...
