BMW: "You're driving the car wrong"

A number of years ago when Apple introduced the iPhone 4, a lot of people complained about the phone's antenna. The signal would drop if you had the phone to your ear.
It turned out the antenna was the metal band outside the phone and when held in your hand it would short out.
In a classic manner Steve Jobs responded "you're holding the phone wrong!"

It seems like every generation (not model) of BMW is plagued by engineering problems.

Apparently US drivers just don't know how to drive a modern BMW. We're not coasting enough to charge the battery, so now it has to be replaced every 10,000 miles.

So the UDM has to be recharged by coasting? WTF BMW!

Not recharged by coasting, recharged WHEN coasting. It is taking energy that would normally be thrown away and using it to charge the battery. We're probably talking 0.1 MPG improvement. Isn't it better to keep the battery at a decent charge level when NOT costing? We're wasting more energy in manufacturing the batteries that keep needing to be replaced than the gas being saved in the car.

Gee, and I thought that it would have been nice to have this feature!

BTW, BMW is revising its numb electrically assisted steering for the 3 series for 2016 as well as improving the chassis....

Love my 335d.

It makes no sense to run the engine hard (as they say it's required) to keep the oil level up, and coasting to charge the battery.
What you waste on saving the oil, you waste on the battery.
Where is the fuel economy they're after?

For the past six months I get the "battery charge low" warning. MY 2011.

they put way too much crap in these cars... I pretty much dont care about fuel economy, if you want performance its going to be shitty. Unless its a diesel lol
