Car stuck in park!!!!

I checked the brake light switch which seems to be working because my tail lights work when I press the brakes. But car will not shift out of park. Is it possible it is the shift interlock solenoid? Bmw wants to chanrge me 700 for the whole shifter. Anyone know what this issue could be I have been manually lifting the little plate under the shifter boot to get myself out of the park position. I appreciate any advise on this. Lights on dash are gear with "!" and a foot with a pedal symbol.

Brake switch on the pedal can be faulty even if your lights light up I am assuming... Scan it see if you see any codes thrown. My guess is that it would be on the switch.

I got stuck in a park once too; I just called the ranger and he helped me push the car. Can't you call the ranger or somebody at the park to help you push?

Pull the leather gear selector trim and push in the knob with a screwdriver. This will release the interlock.

no transmission malfuction errors lately. But I did take the boot off and push the plate up in order to get out of parking gear. Just wanted to get somefeedback on if its happened to anyone else before. I wanted to know if the brake light switch could still be faulty even if my brake lights turn on just not be able to take out off parking gear.

LOL! I've read it 1 or 2 days ago then forgot what it was all about and replied today

Personally I wouldn't pay 700$. I would block the interlock in it's unlocked position or remove it if possible
