Ding in driver side door- driving me nuts!

So my car is a little over a month old and already I noticed a damn ding in the freakin driver side door. Everytime I see it I get depressed haha- so w/that being said, is there anyway I can get this fixed quickly at a relatively low cost? It's a very small ding but, it's noticeable on Space Grey- I think someone just hit my car when they opened their car door- and I know this didn't happen when I was driving the car b/c I park far away from everyone. That's what I get for letting my wife drive the car I guess. Any comments/help would be appreciated. I'll post a pic of the ding soon so you can all see it...

my e46 got shot by a bb gun 3 times...

i have a ding on my front passenger door that doesn't hit the primer...gonna stop by the dealership this weekend and pick up some touch-up paint. i'm concerned about just applying touch up to the affected area. does it need to be cleaned/dried out, etc??

Now that I think about it- it looks more like a bb gun shot than someone hitting it with their door- there's no paint leftover from the other car on my car- and its a round indent on my car w/no paint chipping- was that how your bb gun shot looked? I have to post a pic now for sure...

Probably your best bet is to try to find a paintless dent removal place. Your dealership might know of one. They use special tools to rub out the dent from the inside, and can be done very quickly and for a reasonable price. The good thing about doing it is that you don't need to worry about paint matching. I've used them in the past and it's amazing what they can do.

The dealer took out my GIANT door ding last week. Cost me $129, but its well worth it. They did not have to remove any door panels. The ding guy took a giant suction cup to sucked the ding back out.

looks perfect afterwards. i was very surprised. The only thing my dealer has done right for me recently.

I heard I can buy that suction cup- a magnet actually and do it myself. I don't know if this is wise though- especially if it only costs $129 to have it done by a dealership...good news!

find a dent wizard and pay $125 bucks and make it go away (or save a couple up - they will do 3 dings in the same panel for that price!)

You're welcome! I found the place that did mine a few years back. Slow day at work. Looks like they are a chain that at least around here are connected to a number of dealerships. Check it out, they may have a place near you.

PDR is the answer. I got my first one a few months back, when the car was about 9 mos. old. I got suc***** into the "protection package" for $499, covering dings, fabric, chips, for 5 years. I called as soon as I discovered it, and I was approved and didn't hear from anyone for 3 weeks!! LOL In the end, the guy fixed it good as new--took him around 2 min., but I didn't see it done, he took the car into the garage where they have special lights, rods, etc. CANNOT see the ding at all, no joke. Others swore by it, but I couldn't believe it or endorse it until I actually had it done. The guy said if I didn't have the package, it would have cost $100.

As long as the ding is not on a line or edge, or somewhere that is inaccesible from behind, they can fix it good as new. I was told golf ball size is the general rule, but something as big as a football can be made better with this method. Good luck to the OP.

Thanks for all your help guys- I'm definitely going to hit up a DentWizard and get this done- I might even do the $400 lifetime dent removal thing just so I'm not worried about it....I live in an urban area and my last car had a bunch of dents by the time the lease ended so that may be worth it for me...thanks again.

It's kind of funny, I felt like you do when I saw my ding...to me, the car was ruined, finito! And it made me feel even worse knowing I always park away. I think some lady in a SUV did it at work. Anyway, when the ding was removed, I was so happy I even tipped the guy. He was appreciative and wanted to show me how he does it etc., but the dealership doesn't allow customers into their garage and he was a contractor. Normally, you need a crowbar to pry my wallet open.....LOL

Also FYI apparently the better the metal, the easier to fix. I was told BMW and Benz have very good metal and the results are really good. With a Hyundai (that's what the guy said) it's more difficult to have a perfect repair....good luck.

I have one just like that on my drivers side door. However its fairly small and only I could notice it under the right light, it almost looks as if I forgot to wipe the wax off that part or something. I think it was from a rock or something being kicked up, as I remember a loud bang on my door once I was driving, however I couldnt see anything then as the car was dirty.

I had paintless dent removal done on my car a couple of weeks ago. I had a dime size door ding on my rear passenger quarter panel. I used a guy through my local body shop, and the results are amazing! It looks good as new..you would never be able to find where the dent once was. It's well worth the money. Oh, and stop parking next to people and tell your wife the same. It's just asking for trouble. It doesn't guarantee no more dings (like me for example), but greatly reduces the chances. You can't trust other people to be carefule around your car..because they just don't care.

Go to "Dent Wizard" in Leonia.

There is a guy there named Bruno. He is an artist. I go to him and I live in NY !

I believe he only works Saturday and Monday.

Ding in driver side door- driving me nuts!

Reminds me of this joke....

A pirate walks into a bar. The bar tender notices that something is a little strang and he says, "You have a steering wheel in your pants." And the pirate says, "It's drivin' me nuts! Arrgh."

+1 on the paintless dent removal. Sounds like yours is perfect for that repair. It is relatively cheap and the pros do a good job.
