m4 nearly ordered then had a rethink advice please

Hi all,
Have decided to keep 335d touring to it drops to pieces and I am at peace with myself.
Now the 435i tbh when the sun shines and the roof down all is good, but the monthlies are quite high, now I looked at the m4 vert and the 4.9 apr plus 10% off sounded good, but the interior quality just doesn't quite satisfy me, so looked at 6 gc and wow it was like going to sit in business class, now miles are minimal and don't want m6, just wondered if anybody has any experience of 650i a bit of a halfway house, finally had a good look at the x5 very nice but the 7.9 apr puts me off.
Basically 335d daily hack, just looking for luxury pace and feelgood factor, apologies to my sales contact got him running round doing several qoutes at once!.
Cheers happy

Hiya

Was considering 650i and A7. Decided to go with A7 as it was much cheaper back then . I think if you go for 6 , 650i is the only way forward. Brilliant distance cruiser. As you have mentioned , interior quality and feel is just league of its own. let me put it this way , if I was getting one now - it would be 6 series.

Hi again HappyCow, hope you're well.

Sorry to hear you've not yet found the right car for you, as I aways say though, what great choices to be having!

My only advice I would give (considering your sizable budget and frequency of car changes or requests for advice) would be to just go with what you really want to drive and own.

It makes no financial sense for me to own an M4. I can probably drive about 95% of the time the same in my old M235i or a 435i, 428i, 330D, 335D etc but as a BMW lover I just had to own an M car at some point. It now feels great (except direct debit day )

I find that as soon as MPG, % APRs etc become a large part of the decision making process then it's a head decision rather than a heart decision.

I'd say drive each car you're listing above for a weekend, Halliwell Jones know you are a good customer and will again buy something from them. Then decide which car would make you smile every time you start it up. ....

....

...

..

.

Then look at the financials and see how they work out, I don't mean commit financial suicide but I can tell your a man with a few £ to treat himself. In the long run keeping a car you love vs changing several cars you liked but were financially 2% better APRs always makes more sense.

Sorry for the long post, speaking from some experience here, hopefully it did not come across a condescending, I can tell you've probably more financial clout that I.

Good Luck!

PS Damn, forgot my recent 4000 post milestone, whoop whoop.

If financial sense really mattered, we'd all be driving Kia Ceeds.

Happy,

Have you got yourself to a Porsche showroom yet? Personally if I had the budget a great car combo would be a 335d/i Touring and a Porsche Cayman or Boxster.

You also know that Porsche are unlikely to have 15% discounts next year and hence hit the residuals to hard!

I urge you to have a test drive, you might not look back

As much as I hate cocks who rag their cars round the busy streets of London, one snorted by in a masserati yesterday. Complete dick but boy did it sound nice. Now there's a sense of occasion.

Thanks chris for your honest advice, tbh have got a bit disillusioned about hj chester won't lend you an m4 or let you take one out on your own, At rybrook Shrewsbury totally the opposite, lending me a car for the weekend, now tbh m50d is a bit more of an all rounder and the luxury, but I have never owned a m car and maybe thats an itch I've got to scratch, m5 amazing bit of kit, quality but made the mistake of doing a test drive in torrential rain and the traction control light was permanently on.
Really want to stick with bmw tbh neg equity issues.
But I will pop down to porshe chester and take a cayenne v8 tdi for a spin.
The trouble is don't want to over complicate things!.

Have been offered a stock m4 vert at rybrook shrewsbury.
Mineral grey, sakhir orange leather
Convertible comfort pack, dct, adaptive headlights, m head up, h+k, internet, speed limit etc.
Now deal is 9% off but just wondered with our british climate is the coupe the better way to go, does it drive alot better than vert and will I be more happy long term with the stiffer chassis?.

Not sure about the chassis but I wouldn't have any issues over the performance.

I don't know if it will drive alot better, but surely it will be better than mine's.
I would love to pick & choose on next motor, but unfortunately 90% of us don't have this option that you seem to have.

I can comment on 650's engine as I had a 750. It's just stunning. Very refined. You can do the 50p trick at idle on the engine.

Speed wise, was about the same as my 335d but the way it went about it was so much more civilised.

Economy was about 22 on average. Low teens around town and about 28 on mway.

Very different experience but I loved it - 335d is like a tractor in comparison and I just accept interior is rubbish.

Your problem is finding one I suspect. Took me 8 months of constant searching to get what I wanted. But with only 10k on clock and under a year old, I got £35k off original price. Doesn't matter what contribution is, buying new would be mad.

I would have bought a 6GC had the wife not found it a bit claustrophobic. Since found out much nicer with sunroof - shame I can get on M6 GC.

A 6GC claustrophobic? : isn't that close to being one of BMW's biggest non-SUV cars (aside from 7 series)?

We were coming from a 7 series with cream nappa interior and car we looked at had black Dakota interior and headlining. Wife was not impressed.

BUT I have seen some combos with sunroof now and they are lovely inside.

Good friend of mine has just swapped his 640d gc a 430d gc. 4 series much bigger in the back for his 2 kids (9 and 5). They hated the 6 as so crammed and preferred their mum's qashcai!
