OT: Speeding driver ordered to pay £11,000
"A speeding driver has to pay £11,000 for challenging his ticket after a prosecution expert hired an airfield and a sports car to prove him wrong."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-32733002 Sounds like his attempts at proving inaccuracies of the speed camera didnt work!

Great use of resources. If he had won, even if just through a technicality, then the CPS (i.e. us, the taxpayers) would have had to stump up for some tosser to spin an R8 around an airfield to prove a point.
I'd be interested to know what it is they actually proved: that an R8 can go 101 mph? Yes, well....

In Finland they base tickets on your spend AND salary!
My old CFO (who ironically drives a lambo) was caught speeding in a hire car at 60km in a 40km zone and fine a shade over £10k, he also missed his flight. |

but seriously.... it proved a point and has made an example out of this chap which will act as a deterrent to others challenging the accuracy. it is not saying you can't challenge the accuracy.... just be prepared to pay heavily if the findings are against you. in this case the police had reasonable grounds (via home office type approval and calibration) to believe their kit was accurate. the defendant challenged it (with no reasonable grounds) and they called his bluff. good on them I say |

Fair enough challenging the accuracy IF you have grounds but really !!!!!!
By the by. I challenged a speeding ticket I got a few years back on the basis that the camera was on a hill but pointed straight ahead and that the lines were obscured by shadows. Had it all dropped BUT the camera is still there pointing straight ahead raking in the cash ... |

I wonder how the prosecution used an airfield and R8 to actually proved that their kit is accurate. I wonder if they used two speed detectors and got the same 100+mph.
Mr Pickup will be feeling woefully embarrassed as well as skint. The Plonker. |

All fines are based on your income here too, but there are caps. £1,000 in the case of speeding (or £2,500 if on a motorway).

Skint? With a £100K R8? Nah, doubt it.
