Broken spring = covered by warranty?
Hi,
My front / driver side spring has broke, does anyone know if this is covered under bmw extended warranty? My car had a service 2 weeks ago with an inspection service - no mention of suspension damage & the cars done 15miles since (drive home)! Not even sure when it happened as I haven't driven it since the service!? Thanks Last edited by jammy78; 05-14-2015 at 02:02 PM.. |

I had an E46 compact once, covered by the AUC warranty that failed an MOT due to a broken spring. The dealer just changed both fronts under the warranty no problem. Told me afterwards! I'd just ring them and ask? |

Yeah they are covered. My e90 snapped the o/s/f one night but I could not drive it as it was againest the wheel. Got recovered home then recovered next morning to the dealer, they replaced both front springs no problems no bill or anything. Even got a hire car.

One of mine went and Sytner Oldbury refused to cover under a comprehensive policy-stating that it was a wear and tear item.
Complained via Mondial, who stated that they would be led by the dealership.I got nowhere in the end and ended up replacing and refreshing with an aftermarket setup via an Indy. Hope it works out for you,but there is no real consistency across dealerships,so beware! |

Consistency is such a problem - I had to fight tooth and nail to get the seatbelt butlers done
I'm now thinking that the control arm bushes have gone but will be told it's wear and tear. You could argue a case for almost everything being wear and tear on older cars like mine but I assumed thats why the price kept going up with age/mileage, to cover the increased likelihood of things like that failing? |

Nightmare! this happened to me last week. I'd been for a country drive and stopped to climb a local hill. All fine and well, got back to the car and went to drive off, applied a little lock as I pulled away and BANG! drivers front spring gone.
Long story short got recovered to my local Indy whole thing replace including a seized rear brake caliper in under 5 hours for £450. £200 for P+L on spring, £250 for F+L on the exchange caliper. Could have been worse but if they cover you on warranty then go for it! |

I must be one of the lucky ones..... it's in for emergency repair, hopefully done today & it is covered under warranty!
1.5 years paying for extended warranty & I need to use it the day the car was going to be sold! |

When mine went on the motorway, bizarrely,I only noticed when I smelled burning rubber and I thought that was from a passing truck!-only when I stopped when the smell continued, did I find the suspension had dropped and a deep groove was being cut into one of my winters as I drove-the burning smell!.If I hadn't stopped and because it was getting that deep,it was almost blow out time! Shitners were trying to charge me over £1500 for the pleasure! |

I had broken front springs replaced on my E91, about a year apart, all covered under BMW Emergency recovery and BMW extended/insured warranty. No questions at all. Included hire cars and my car returned each occasion on a flatbed. HighlandPete |

I haven't a clue.Car was recovered too.Had a courtesy car supplied as well and then that's when the fun began.
Even though it's an inconvenience,I haven't spent another penny at Sytner Oldbury |
