Can someone help me?

Hey guys I have a m4 and wondering how you guys know what maintenance needs to be done besides what it tells you on the idrive? I see people talking about 12k service and such and I can't find any information about it. My car has 11,3xx miles and don't want to miss any crucial maintenances... Also if anyone can post up a schedule of all the maintenance that is recommended for the car and when? I plan on keeping her for a while and I feel like there is supposed to be more done than what the idrive lists... Thanks!

My understanding is the car will tell you when servicing is needed... I don't think I have ever seen a maintenance schedule.

I think you mean 1.2k not , not 12k. That's a run in service, for new cars. Otherwise the car will tell you when it's due, there's nothing else you need to worry about.

No, I've seen people on here say they are due for their 12k multiple times.. Unless each time was a typo? I am aware of the 1200mi service but thought there was more that was recommended than what the idrive was displaying was needed. Sorry if I am mistaken.

I've had the same thoughts too. Probably from years of having cars with scheduled oil changes every 5k and 15k/30k/60k maintenance schedules.

I'm somewhere around 9k miles right now, and some time back the car started giving me reminders with a countdown of mileage and what seems like a suggested month for maintenance service.

Do our cars actually try to measure something to determine that service needs to be done, or it is a straight interval time since last service..?

I too, would've preferred to have a maintenance interval schedule, at least a guidelines...

When you bring your BMW to the dealer your SA will put the key in a reader and that tells all you need to know.

I think it's beneficial to know beforehand as by the time you go to service for something you would have missed an important maintenance... I'm just wondering if there is any sort of schedule for these cars as I see a couple people talking about a 12k service they are doing..

Doesn't your car tell you how many kms until the next service when you start it? Mine shows that info on start up in the instrument cluster.

Yes, it does but why I am asking is because people are talking about a 12k service but nowhere in my idrive does it state I need a service at 12k. I'm at 11,3xx miles and was wondering what people were getting done because I don't see anything on my end about such service. I was wondering if there was a maint schedule some people have or are following that is not related to the information displayed on our idrive.

also this probably should go in the Mechanical Maintenance board, this topic may also be of interest:

I think "free" maintenance from BMW seems to be every 10k. If you go through iDrive to check on car status and go to service required.. it should tell you at least when your car thinks its next maintenance should be.

BMW had usage based maintenance schedule (or whatever it's called) for decades now. The car usually give you plenty of notice. You can always see how many miles or months are left until service. It's suppose to be better than fixed schedule, because it takes into account how you use the car.
