Warranty extensions
Has anyone hit the point where BMW has offered them the extended warranty at the 3 year point yet? What does everyone do? I want to keep my car I have got now and i'm looking into what to do when the warranty runs out. What are all your thoughts?

I paid for the extended warranty on my last 5-series for about three or four years, then reverted to breakdown recovery only for another few years. I never needed to use either one once!
But it's a form of insurance that you must decide on, whether your circumstances will ever leave you stranded or out of pocket to a level that is unacceptable. (I've had house insurance (building and contents) for many many years and have never claimed a penny!!!) However, a colleague with a E60 had a fault that turned out to be £4k's worth of work including a new computer somewhere in the floor(??). It was enough for him to 'pull stumps' as it was not viably worth the expense, even if he'd wanted to fix it. The choice comes down to your own peace of mind and for how long.

The biggest concern for me will be something electrical going wrong as i wouldnt have a clue where to start with it. I suppose 500 quid is a small price to pay for the piece of mind .

Various different quotes depending on which excess you choose, which level of parts covered and whether you choose the full breakdown service which comes with a new car.
I paid £480 or thereabouts for the full recovery, highest level of parts cover etc and £100 excess. You can get a quote now on the BMW website. |

I dont think its an actual BMW warranty so therefore not as comprehensive as your 3 year warranty (not sure it covers eg rattly trim). Its just essentially an insurance policy (Mondial Assistance (UK) Limited). But still worth it as I think it covers pretty much 95% of what the BMW 3 year warranty does.

just about to do the same on my 3 year old 320i
can't believe the time has gone so quickly.... letter is quoting £470 for comp assuming 50k on the clock, £100 excess and emergency service. mine has 29k so we'll see if it reduces it by much? i'll definately be getting warranty after having £10,000 odd, worth of repairs done on my last bmw.... it's also due it's first MOT by the 27th so i've got to see if i can get it in quick. as it's supposed to have 'MOT protect'. though they will probably try and skank me for tyres, or brake discs and pads. like they did on my last service. which are not needed yet. and it's due an inspection and brake fluid change according to the CBS this month. |

The mot protect is a gaurantee through its first one so im sure you will be able to still have that. I have got service inclusive so at least im covered for 5 years then il probably find a decent indy to look after her. |

gives 'MOT protect' up to and including 3rd MOT iirc.. my 19" tyres are at 4.0mm atm i have a spare set of 17" wheels that the car came with, that i use in winter, so probably wont need doing till next year. but the discs and pads i'll get done myself, got quoted £1200 for them a year ago during a service and they still don't need doing.... pagid parts for discs and pads all round are £300 all in. |

done the missus fiesta's front discs and pads last year. was a doddle just watched a youtube video beforehand. yes sensors inc at that price, and the ceramic grease instead of copper so it doesn't interfer with abs sensors |
