Strut braces.

Just had a post on another link. Thanks Dopper 99

Got me thinking. Mechanuk do a strut brace for £169 delivered which looks quite good.

Had one on my earlier Volvo which was an original part and came with all the necessary pieces to lower the fuse box as well to avoid clearance issues. Made a noticeable improvement on handling and turn in

Was wondering if anyone has fitted one to their car and if they've had any issues with fouling etc

Can contact and probably will Bimmian who market them but recall from the Volvo days other suppliers basically saying should fit but you may need to make modifications etc whereas the Volvo part came with the bits required.

They only go from strut tower to bulkhead and are pretty small!

Also, they've felt the need to fit the M3 with one, so must do something useful?

I suspect that is more reflective of which models are actually available in the USA.

If you open up the Excel sheet that you will see that Weichers have a number of options - Steel, Aluminium and CF

Granted they are not as substantial as tower to tower brace, but considering the F30's body is one third stiffer in torsion and 8% stiffer in bending than the E90, i doubt a full strut brace will make much difference at all.

Guys that have them fitted (US guys) said they noticed a difference as soon as they drove it. More of a "on rails" handling feeling.

Then, as said, why fit them to M3/M4?

On the flip side of the coin

Imagine there would be some increase in torsional stiffness

Don't imagine they would cause any harm other than the usual potential warranty issues that may arise ???

Maybe they do make a difference then, it's not something i'd consider doing though.

I really can't think of an issue where BMW could turn round and say that the story brace caused a fault that wouldn't have happened otherwise!

They come in carbon fibre... Even if it just looks cool?

And besides.. Easy to fit and then you can add to your next car!

The voice of sanity ???

They've already upped my premium for suspensions changes due to the ACS springs - think I'm already paying for their Xmas bonus judging by the amounts other guys are paying even for M CARS

What insurer?

I went through A-plan brokers, and now have an insurer that was happy with ALL my mods. Suspension, remaps, the lot... about £30 extra for the year.

Ended up admiral via go compare at 750 pa. for 12k miles full ncd and no points ever !!!

Think it's down to where I live and self employed status !!!

They added about 60 for the mods and 90 for an ongoing bump the Mrs had - not her fault just in dispute.

A plan wanted well over £1k !!!!

Jeez that is expensive. I think £600 for 25k miles inc business use, and all my mods is perfectly reasonable. 8 years NCD and no points, and nearly 40 helps I guess.
