Stage 2 tune with full exhaust dyno pull (video)

Well, we finally finished up my exhaust Friday night... Just in time for the Southern Worthersee in Helen, GA. I drove the d instead of my TDI just because. We repeatedly heard dyno pulls, so we found where and decided to see if we could get it on the rollers.

Pics, or it didn't happen, right? Well, here's a video.

353.8hp 604.5tq. The dyno was Dynocom, and from my research, they seem to be favorites of the general population because the numbers are about 10% high. Either way, decent numbers, and the car pulls like a freight train, and I can't get enough of the sound.

I have a downpipe from the banned one. The rest of it is an aftermarket 2.5" 335i exhaust modified to mate with the 3" downpipe.

Since I have a few pm's, the modification to the exhaust is a 3" to 2.5" Y tig welded to the 335i mid pipes with a 3" flange to mate with the down pipe. It took us about 2 - 3 hours of measuring and cutting to get the angles, and about 3 hours of welding. It's not really magic, just lots if measuring. Along with pulling the motor mount, dp, and porting the waste gate. It was a solid 3 evenings after work. If I may make a suggestion, it's to port the gate when swapping in the downpipe. My welder is going make another turbo back for my buddy, dp and all.

Awesome! Thanks for posting the videos. Do you happen to have a photo of your exhaust setup from under the car?

Unfortunately, we were hustling, and my phone was hooked to the sound system in the shop. I didn't grab any pictures. I literally thought about it right after the car was off the rack, but I was late for dinner.

Looks like the car is fueling a lot up top, I guess these things do run out of air in upper rpm's

First time at the computer in a few days, and I have a sec, so I dug up the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-335i-E90...253ad8&vxp=mtr .

I don't normally like the low end stuff, but I was going to chop it up and I didn't want to buy an Akrapovic system and hack at it. Now that it's in, I think it's gonna stay. I think the thousands I would have spent on that would be better suited spent on a track day and suspension upgrades.

do you think Lenntech has your car turned down for the sake of your transmission?

Oh I thought you had a tune after the DP. That explains why it was basically making JBD + meth numbers.

The smoke does seem to pick back up on the top end. Spraying w/m might alleviate some of that by densifying the intake charge... or hybrid turbos. Then again, I worry about the trans already.

I graphed the datastream in Torque, but without new 335d correction pids. I'll get some more data at the drag strip this weekend. With the exhaust, the car ran 13.4 @ 107 launching in second and chirping until it shifted to third. The car EASILY breaks traction in second now leaving a light, and if traction control is off, you have to wrestle the wheel until third. I'm hoping to see 12's Friday night at the strip in Commerce, GA, but it might not be possible on stock run flats.

Try taking it easier until youre fully into 3rd. Your car should be able to break into the 12s without breaking a sweat. FWIW I ran 12.9 on stock sport run flats with just a JBD and meth, your car is well beyond that.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I haven't perfected launching a car. Test and Tune here backs waaaay up and you MIGHT get 2 passes. The redneck stuff likes to blow up around the eighth mile, and it takes them a half hour to clean the track. Tech is a guy writing on your window with shoe polish and telling you to turn your a/c off.

Yeah that happened last time I hit the track. Some guy blew up his bike and the track went from holding a 2nd gear launch at 2200 RPM brake boost to not holding off idle launches and blowing the tires off the track even if you stuck it out past the 60' mark. Its really hard to race on a track with crappy prep.

I think the best part of this whole thread is that you were driving around GA and found a dyno machine on a trailer in what appears to be a hotel parking lot. 'Merica
