Purchase Decision (328i vs. 335i)
I've been looking for an e92 (or possibly g37s) for a little while and now I think I have two potential candidates. I know it's my decision/preference but just looking for some feedback. Sorry no pics. I'm pretty much looking for everything in a car (looks, options, performance, reliabilty, etc.) but I know there will be some compromise since I don't have an unlimited budget.
Both vehicles are virtually the same price: Car 1. 2011 335i M-Sport w/ 46k miles Black exterior with Oyster/blk and a darker wood trim (not sure which) Seller: Dealer No nav or comfort access Car 2. 2011 328i M-Sport w/ 36k miles White exterior w/ coral red and aluminum trim Seemingly has every option (nav, comfort access) CPO'd less than 10k miles ago Essentially, what are your thoughts on the two. Is the n55 too much to pass up? Is the combination of an na engine, less miles, and CPO the smart way to go or will the n55 likely not be that problematic up to 100k? Also, the nav and coral red interior are big pluses in my book. The Oyster looks great but I'm concerned as I can already see wear (especially on the driver door panel) on the near white interior. Yes, it will come down to my preference but share you thoughts based on what based on your actual E9x experiences. Thanks. |

I had a 07 E90 328 and now I have a 11 E92 335xi. The difference between the cars (motor wise) is night and day. The first thing you need to do is go and DRIVE both cars and see which one feels better for YOU.
Personally (just my opinion here) if I am to buy a used car it has to be under 30k miles (preferably in the 15-25k miles range) but that's just me. In the case of the two cars you got posted, I would pass on the 328 simply because I already owned one. I would pass on the 335 too and look for one will less miles and more options; this shouldn't be too hard to do these days. I also would not want a car with a white interior, just a major pain in the ass to maintain. In your case, after driving both cars, figure out how much you are willing to put down, and see what price you can get them for (haggle believe me it works). The 335 is out of warranty so make sure you are a good mechanic, know a good mechanic, or have some cash saved up for repairs (and there will be repairs). Other option is see if you can get the dealer to get you a decent price on a warranty. The 328 is almost out of warranty but it shouldn't have any issues till about 80k miles or so (this is when gaskets start to fail). I say keep looking for a lower mileage and loaded 335. Why settle? These cars are not hard to find these days. |

Well what is the price tag on them? There are days I love my 335 and there are days I wish I had the 328. I would say drive both and see how you like them. Me personally I would not want a car that new that does not at leave have navi and some other features it is probably missing.

Search what? This is not just a n52 vs. N54 question. This is a car A vs. car B question where people can provide their opinion. "I have the oyster interior and I wouldn't get it again, it does not age well" "You should really try to find one with nav. I feel it's a must on the '09 plus cars" And so on. I've searched and read a ton of 328i vs. 335i threads and as everyone knows there isn't a "right" answer. I'm just looking for specific opinion on two vehicles. |

Price rag is another factor service records, as well as how long the warranty has, the condition the current hardware is in, you could see a really good deal but if the car has seen some shit... No way

Test drive both
The 335 is faster but more expensive and had a higher maintenance cost , the 328 is slower but its cheaper and less maintenance cost overall. I went with the 328 because it was newer , lower mileage and it fit my budget. But if I had a higher budget I would ve probably bought a 335. Year and mileage and price was my top priority so I went with what made sense for me 328 is as fast as a civic si , golf gti , genesis 2.0 , subaru brz , audi A4 , in the other hand 335 is more comparable to the is350 , g37 , subaru sti. So it really comes down to how fast you want your car to go . 328 and 335 are designed for different markets and needs .... |

OP if you are worried about reliability, here is the TrueDelta reliability ratings for all the 3 series cars. The 2011 335i is actually slightly MORE reliable than the 2011 328. Typically the people saying that the 328 is more reliable....drive 328s. Go figure.
http://www.truedelta.com/BMW-3-Serie...vs-3-Series-13 BTW, I wouldn't buy either car. Although the 335i has M-sport, it does not have Nav and you didn't mention if it had harmon kardon or not. I would be patient and keep looking for another CPO N55.

The 328i is more reliable - there is nothing inherently unique to the chassis that isn't present on the 335i. The Engine is less complex and more reliable.
