CBU Service: Head coming off...what is replaced?

The head is coming off and being cleaned under CPO warranty at 93k miles. Anyone have a list of what is replaced as part of this job and what might be reused that should be replaced? I don't mind paying for a few parts since the big cost is covered and I might as well take advantage of the "while we are in there" process to make sure the car is as solid as possible. At the same time I don't want to offer up a blank check to cover parts that are likely to be replaced anyway.

It's unusual the head needs to come off for CBU cleaning. This was true for the first of the CBU cases, but not now with engineered tools and solution to clean in place. Are you sure the dealer knows what they are doing?

I didn't get a chance to interview the crew...

It is my understanding that sending the head off to be dipped is still the go to for severe build up.

So...the head is off, now, does anyone who has been through this same scenario know what is normally replaced as part of the service and what isn't that should be considered?

Mark mentioned the standard while you are in there parts...are there any specific to the 335d that would be easier to replace during this procedure and are items to look at when approaching 100k miles?

To be honest, I've been on this forum for 2 years now. From reading the forum and comments from users, the engine is bulletproof. I have not seen any issues or common failure parts related to the mechanicals of the engine.

The only two weaknesses this car seems to have are:
- Carbon Buildup
- Emissions systems DPF / SCR systems

Yeah Mark is right. There really isnt anything you need to replace, nothing mechanical seems to be a failure point so far on these engines. If it works for you, the vacuum lines will probably need to be replaced within the next 10 years so that is one item. Belts if they look like it, but thats not exactly something you need to worry about doing at the same time. The last thing I would suggest is to check the oil feed piping gaskets at the turbos, there are a few that cannot be replaced without pulling the turbos off so if they are looking a little leaky you should take the opportunity to replace them now.

Water pump lives beside the block and is electric. No need to replace it unless there is a fault code for it. Belt/tensioner/idler are never a terrible idea, especially at that mileage. Just make sure they use all fresh gaskets (intake/exhaust manifold, valve cover etc) and of course head bolts

Actually the water pump on the M57 is belt drive, not electric like the gassers have. Depending on your year (up to 12/09 supposedly) you might have an auxiliary pump for the heater.

Update: I got the car back last Friday. Right peddle response is crisper and I'm on my way to the best mpg I've had in a long time. The SA echoed what you guys said about replacement parts. I'm an old E36 guy so I was just used to replacing parts before they failed and throw the old parts in the spares/track box.

I also suspect the SA went a bit overboard when he indicated the head came off...unless my limited research on the SIB listed is wrong. The normal manifold removal and blasting procedure is what is listed on the receipt.

...now on to meth kit research in case I keep her for a while. I don't mind doing the work but is there a favorite combo out there just for keeping the intake clean? I'm not concerned with adding power at all. I've got 7k left on CPO coverage so I have a bit of time to research.

Block your EGR now. Meth after the CPO comes off.

It could be my small brain but I haven't seen where one might purchase these bits.
