07 Bmw 335i coupe Charger malfuntion

So i have a 2007 BMW 335i coupe 128,000 miles on it, was driving home from work and suddenly a red battery light comes on my dash and the power steering goes out, parked as soon as i got home looked under the hood and the belt is shredded. Can anyone help? What should i do?

I hate to state the obvious here but it seems like the right move would be to replace the belt. You should probably replace the tensioner at that mileage too.

Power steering went out and the red battery light illuminated because your accessory belt drives both the alternator (charges the battery) and the power steering pump.

I would not drive the car until you replace the belt.

Yep, I did this just a few days ago and it's pretty easy. Good DIY is right here:

I also replaced the upper and lower pulleys as well while I was at it since it's only an extra 10 min to do while you have everything opened up and accessible.

Check your PS pump when you have belt off to make sure all the bolts are in there and the pump isn't loose also.

Change:
Belt
Tensioner
MOTOR MOUNTS

You likely have the dreaded subframe clearance issue, which caused the belt to shred If it happens again after doing all of the above, it will require a new subframe or modifying the existing unit.
