No Space Saver Spare Tire in Canada
In lieu of a 'Space Saver Spare Tire' (code # 300) in Canada ... we get a 'emergency tire kit'.
1). Has anybody in Canada placed a special order ($400 CDN) + the Space Saver Spare Tire ($320 CDN) ... or is everybody just going with the 'emergency tire kit' ?? 2). Has anybody had any experience with an 'emergency tire kit' and then subsequently had their tire repaired with no issues ? |

even the emergency tire kit is a joke. Those sealant does not work on a bigger size puncture (based on my own experience) and the tire shop hates this kind of sealant as they need to spend even more time to clean off from the rim.
If you are going on a long trip, take your winter wheel (act as a spare) + bring a jack. |

Hi All:
Thanks so much for all your respective feedbacks ! Before I pull the plug on my options ... I would truly appreciate my fellow members if they could: 1). For those that this option is standard ... Please confirm if the Space Safer Spare (code #300) comes with some kind of clamp-down feature or the spare wheel just sits free in the compartment below the cargo floor cover. 2). Would appreciate it if you can please provide any pics of the Space Safer Spare wheel in the storage area. Thanks so much ... |

Bump. I am curious to know the answers, too.
Though to the OP, I still think that by buying the parts through parts department post delivery will be the cheaper option. You will save the $400 special order charge, so you are $400 ahead of the game unless you have other special order items. I am sure you can get the spare tire kit for $720. Jacks you can even source off a junk yard, and probably get a decent torque wrench at Princess Auto. Besides, you will probably end up calling roadside assist to put on the spare anyways. Bonus being that you have an extra emergency tire kit to keep around. |

There a difference between having the 300 option and not having it. If you have it, you have everything attached to the car so that nothing moves. If not, the trunk floor is carpeted and you can still put stuff in it but without the mount for the spare, things can move.
I'd gladly post a picture of mine but I can't do it until next week. |

All in all, the cost is about the same if you order the spare with the truck or if you buy it aftermarket. (http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...-E70M-KIT.html)
But it's simplier to do it with the order, just make sure the dealer doesn't mess up. Make him show you all the options ordered in the system. You have to see SA300 spare tire |

Damn, that sucks. The dealer should be able to take out the linen and order all the parts on his dime.
Could you post a picture before and after when it's fixed |

I was thinking the factory installed spare may have a chassis mount to keep the wheel in place. Does a retro refit give me exactly what the factory would have done? Ill pay them the 695$ plus tax that I originally agreed to but not a penny more. For the inconvenience ill ask for another Golf gift set. (got one with the car, already lost one prov1) Will arrange to have this installed when I'm in for my 2K service. |

Dealer mistake, sorry to hear. I'd tell them your not happy. For X5/F15, no spare the space is finished with felt but not for factory spare. Silly that option is only available with Special Order as some may not know know this. Sorry no post to secure the wheel. Note: Some were thinking of driving with a loose wheel, that could be dangerous. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ht=spare+wheel |

Disappointing that attention to detail is non existent today. Reading the F15 link there's a support bar welded into the chassis and holds the spare with a wing nut. Seeing as my dealer messed up the order I now have to retro it in. How concerned should I be if the spare sits in the back with the compartment closed without the post securely holding it? How about ratling and noise? Any suggestions on how one would go about safely securing the spare? Last edited by Vassilis1971; 07-19-2015 at 12:32 PM.. Reason: Spelling |

Here's my retro of the spare.
The felted bottom is held in place by nine reusable fasteners. Once removed there is a threaded hole in the center of the storage area. (M8 screw) The dealer ordered the space saver kit however there was nothing included to ensure the spare would be held securely in place. Blame it on BMW Canada needing to refresh the ETK. Part # 71-15-6-750-687 is required to properly secure the tire by utilizing the threaded hole in the vehicle's chassis. |
