Just bought a 2008 335xi smoke from oil cap when I rev it??? Odd?

Idk maybe I am just paranoid I have had this car for less than 12 hours haha but when I had my brother rev the car up a little with the hood open I seen a very small amount of smoke seep through the oil cap probably 4k rev? Thought this was odd oil levels show good inside the car. Which by the way is there even an oil dipstick on this car I cannot find one anywhere? Car has 54k on it.

I would like to say that you should not see smoke coming out of the oil cap, as its supposed to be air tight. You might need to replace the oil cap or the rubber gasket.
I once had a CEL that was related to that.

There is no oil dip stick on these cars. You have to check it via the IDrive interface.

Think about checking or cleaning the PCV, walnut blasting, and replacing oil filter housing and valve cover gaskets.

Through the cap itself or between the cap and housing?

The cap is plastic and can develope hairline cracks over time. Not sure if it takes the same as the 328 which are ~$30.

Or could be a bad O-ring or improper installation of the O-Ring, cross threaded cap, etc if coming from between.

Garage List
This is why you don't rush your purchase of a new car and get a full PPI done..

Give it a few days and drive it around some.
Since it is new to you, it is possible it may have just had an oil change or top off oil dumped in. Any spillage will most certainly burn off and smoke.

If in a few days your still smoking, keep an eye on your oil level. You may have a leak. If no leak, then it may be a seal as others have mentioned.

The oil cap rubber ring is worn out or the oil cap isn't closed correctly. Make sure it is closed correctly and check that the rubber o-ring is placed correctly and in good shape.
If you don't have the right tools have a friend help you out, or seek for help. Do not drive the car around neither rev it. You could end up with oil all over the engine.
There is no oil dipstick on these cars, you can only check it via iDrive or on your computer using the OBC.
Be careful.

I am thinking its the oil cap o ring or maybe alittle oil was spilled when they did an oil change the didnt have the car on the lot for very long at all. Im not sure a PPI would have caught that its only on decent revs. Idk the dealer said it goes through a 156 point inspection... They cant lie on that or they can be sued... I had to drive 2 hours to find that.

Most 2008's I see or read about have high miles and have been driven to death. Also, apparently there was a time that 335's had many "kinks" that weren’t worked out yet. If people are buying 07-08 335's just now they probably got them cheap with high miles...not surprised.

Ur good man. 07/08s do have some kinks but aren't too serious. Most have been already taken care of such as HPFP and injectors. Wastegate rattle as well.

The problem ur having isn't very serious, it's not like ur engine lost compression. I've heard of faulty oil caps on BMWs including e46s like mine.

It's not a 335i problem. The 328i has many problems of its own not to mention the lack of power and less mpg

It was a joke in reference to everyone saying the 328 is more reliable than the 335 lately.

You must be new here

I would second that 07's are not as bad as many make them out to be. I recently purchased an 07 335i and so far she has been nothing short of amazing. Had to replace a VCG for a light leak in one of the plugs and had my oil changed at the same time. I'm nearing 10k KM and no signs of any oil consumption. Haven't had to top off at all.

I would think your oil cap seal is probably torn as others have mentioned it should be a seal to keep pressures optimal.
