340i Manual Touring?

I read something earlier that mentioned you can get the LCI 340i with a manual box, but only the saloon. Auto being the only option for the 340i touring.

Does anyone know if this is correct for the UK?

The touring is a car which i quite fancy in the future, but only with a manual box.

I know people will tell me autos are the way forward etc, and i bought a 650i with an auto box because of this. As nice as it was, after a while i found it slightly boring, mainly because of the box.

I'd be surprised if it was one rule for saloon and different for the tourer.

I know what you mean though... when I drive a manual I realise how much it adds to the driving experience on the right road. However when I'm not on the right road and sat in traffic I then really wish I had the auto. And unfortunately I just spend too much time on the wrong kinds of roads in the wrong kinds of traffic.

Hi

You are correct - just checked and for whatever reason (I don't know why at the mo) the saloon can come in manual but the touring is only available in an auto.

To be honest I was under same impression originally when I started looking at the 335i. But as long as its the sport box with the paddles and the extra modes its a very good comparimise. You can get away get power down easier , and with the joy of traffic that we get down south a real life saver. Add to that the 335i Auto is £200 instead of £400 road tax it becase easier to say goodbye to manual. There is something about the latest auto sport boxes having driven E90 autos never cared much for them but what ever they did to the F30 range its made a big difference

Yeah it's a bit disappointing really. Luckily on my commute i don't have to sit in any traffic, otherwise i agree an auto would be better.

I've never driven one of the latest 8 speed boxes, only a passenger in a friends Z4 35i with the 8 speed auto. It did seem better than my old 6, less messing about changing down gears when i would prefer the box to hold it etc, but i would still prefer a manual.

I can't think of any other cars that really do it for me with a manual. Has to be a hatch/estate decent looks, engine etc. There aren't too many that do it in a manual any more. Obviously there is the 135i, but i'm not a huge fan of the looks.

Just go try a 335i/435i with the 8 speed sports auto box on an open road take it onto the paddles see if it makes you smile trust me you can have immense fun. I went to an auto due to a sports injury and this is many many times better than the box in my old E92 don't miss manual at all.

I've never personally owned an auto until I picked my car up on Wednesday.

After back surgery 11 or so weeks ago I've been left with some nerve damage in my left leg so was struggling with my manual car.

My wife has an X3 auto 20d and that has the 8 speed auto and I always thought it was super slick. That is until I drove a 330d with the same box. WOW, mind made up and a 335d touring now sits on my driveway.

If you want to play just stick it in manual mode and away you go.

Dave.
