Help! Reset codes. Smog failed obd2 not ready. Drove 250mi. Still not ready.
Hi Guys
Stupid me. I had two misfires a week ago. All codes went away after restarting engine. Then I decided to change coils. A day before smog, I reset the shadow codes of two misfires. 1st day of smog - failed ob2 not ready for: -catalayst -evaporator system -oxygen sensor guy told me drive 150 miles and come back. 2nd day of smog - drove 250 miles - 4 days later - he hooked up some special obd2 reader tool first. Tool reader shows: -catalyst not ready -oxygen sensor not ready but the evaporator system is now ready. The problem is, he says this is strange. Because usually the evaporator comes ready last. He says something could be wrong with my catalytic converter or o2 sensor!!!??? i said.. what?!?!?!? if so, why don't i get a check engine light for those? So what do I do now? Drive a 1000 miles and try again? |

Just keep driving. I had to replace an O2 sensor in my wife's car and the O2 heater took 750 miles to clear off. If you have an OBDII reader, you should be able to see if the ready monitors are set (at least mine will show it). Sometimes the car is also looking for certain drive cycles (stop and go with some constant 40ish MPH running, a constant speed highway trip, etc...).
After 250 miles, the car likely would have logged a pending code if it had an issue. |
