helppp? ds mode broken??

so just yesterday after work i leave and i always put my car in the ds mode. but the car didnt do anything just stood in drive. but i did change the gear to 1 and it stood and then switched back to drive alone while switched into the ds mode???

Its broke, you prolly tug too hard when you switch to ds. I broke mine like that and they replaced whole gear shifter unit under cpo.

It's fairly common that the wires in the shifter mechanism get stressed and break over time. See this post for a video on how to repair it: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842645

Had to this happen on my old 335xi. Its not too bad of a fix. You'll see the wires right away that are damaged.

If you're still under warranty just have the dealership replace it. If not, follow the DIY in the DIY section, it's a SUPER easy repair. Don't pay out of pocket for this repair.

Just did mine last week-end. It is a bad design, scheduled to fail. I am on my 2nd Steptronic (1st on warranty).

Basically you have to extend an harness of 8 wires. Not hard, but not that easy (damn small wires!)

Amateur-style I know.
