xDrive lowering springs. New bump stops or no?
I'm looking to get some very mild lowering springs for my car (probably going with Dinan or AC Schnitzer) and I wanted to find out what the consensus was on new bump stops?
For those of you who put lowering springs on your car, did you get new (shorter) bump stops with them? Since the drop will only be ~1 inch, I'm wondering if I will see any noticeable difference in day to day driving? And I know that there will probably be people who suggest coils instead. I have DHP and need to drive my car year round. I'd like to retain my adaptive shocks functionality and not worry about the coils getting destroyed by the tremendous amounts of salt and brine used to cover our roads in the winter. |

Definitely use the bump stops. You'll regret if you don't because you'll get really sick of bottoming out all the time, and end up paying twice for installation.

Only change the springs. Leave everything else in place. BTW ACS drop is nicely noticeable in looks and cornering
I parked next to a stock M4, and I was a tad lower. |

I used the H&R Sports on my AWD and left OEM bump stops in place. They never bottomed out at all. I have a Gran Coupe X and found it was slightly lower than an RWD sport suspension counterpart. I enjoyed the H&R's so something to consider there.

I was considering H&R as well (as it is cheaper than either of the other 2 options) but it might be a bit low for me (I'll have to drive this year round). Titan, it is good to know that you haven't bottomed out with the H&R springs though as they are about half an inch lower than the other 2 options I'm looking at. |

~ the sad thing... dinan bump stops are nothing more than factory/oem bmw parts.
I ordered a set when I installed h&r sport springs on my 2014 wagon...and if I recall with cross-referencing, the fronts were e36 m3 bump stops and the rears were 5 series bump stops.

I installed CATuned coilovers and lowered mine, I ended up using the stock bump stops. I had to trim them shorter to make them work but I had no issues since I installed them last summer.
Not promoting coilovers for you, I dropped mine a couple of inches.

Dinan vs Eibach progressive springs on 335Xi Adaptive suspension
I confess I am no student of the OEM parts use this thread explores and don't really care - my interest is in the functionality of the "Dinan" bump stops. The difference against my stock Bumps Dinan says is the use of a spring element in the top, so there is not a "hard" stop. Makes sense. If Dinan strongly recommends it I would use them with their 3/4 inch lowering springs on a Xi F30.
Eibach Pro-kit however is a progressive spring and logically would not bottom out as much as a linear spring. Hence less need for the new stops. HOWEVER, I have not installed either on my F30 335Xi and am eager to hear from anyone who has done so on the adaptive suspension F30. Please inform us if you have. I would not particularly be interested in RWD or non-adaptive suspension spring upgrades since these are heavily threaded on bimmerfest. (I guess no one with my setup wants a slight lowering and less sway with decent ride quality?) btw, my car has Dinan stage 1 performance with Evolution Racewerks Charge Pipe, Manual trans, and quicker clutch engagement ($10 part). SO it is halfway decent now but clearly the suspension on these cars is a relative weak point, cosmetics of lowering aside. Thanks. |

Harperium - do you have adaptive suspension?
The only aftermarket for the electronically adjustable shocks seems to be Bilstein, which advertise improved handling but otherwise stock setup. I believe they can take 30mm lowering which is the Dinan spring lowering amount.
Do you have adaptive shocks as OEM? |
