oil consumption = 0

So I was not surprised when my M3 did not need any oil before its first oil change at 1.0k miles. But I am surprised that it has not lost any oil since, and it is almost due for an oil change at 13k.

Is this common? Has anyone needed to add oil? (other than the unfortunate few that ripped holes in the oil coolers...)

Sounds like you have a solid motor and didn't completely baby it during the break in.. I'd be ecstatic..

In 4K miles I've had 0 consumption as well, and I have driven it like a beast from the day I drove it off the lot.

No consumption here... there was another thread on this a while back and the consensus was the S55 doesn't drink oil like its predecessor did.

OT on my own thread, but other than some high speed runs in Europe, I have not driven it like a beast. It is running super-smooth after a road trip up to Chicago -- wish I had dropped in on the IND guys, but afraid I would fall in love with the new BBS FI-R.

The car sips oil compared to the previous generation. Did intermediate oil change for my own peace of mind though it was not required. Rapidly approaching 10000 miles...

Track the crap out of it, and have only used about a half quart. Definitely better than S65, especially S63tu which drinks oil every two-thousand miles

The later models E9X M3 did not drink much oil. At least not my 2011.5. Usually it asked for a quart just before the 10k mark. My S55 seem to be on a similar schedule which is the bigger surprise since both my N54 and N55 never went more than 5K miles between top ups often much less.

At 4k I needed to add 1 quart of oil, but there is a track day on the car, had first oil change/ service done at 1300 miles.

S65 with >37,000 miles+no oil needed ever. Is that a good sign?

Nope, it truly seems it doesn't need to be added ever in between changes. I had a bad oil gauge that made me paranoid over this because it said on every faster run it required a fill up.

27 000km (~17 000 miles) and not once has it truly needed it.

I had to add a quart at around 6k and that lasted until my regular oil change at 10k.

I commute with the car and I often get stuck in terrible traffic. So it spends a lot of time idling, which can't be great for the engine. This is probably especially true during break-in.

This might be a dumb Q.... The N54 benefitted from an oil catchment can for the blow-by. Any thoughts on whether the S55 could use one?

I6 doesn't have a history of burning oil, the V8 thats a whole other story. My 2012 650 went through a quart of oil every other month!

E46's with M54's are notorious for burning oil.

I was beginning to think my gauge may not be working correctly. 7500 miles and it always says full.

Today at 2pm....

I'm at 11,000 and didn't realize I need to watch out for missing oil in a new 80,000$ car. Ugh
