Looks good Riaz, not for me but for those with 335d/435d's paying barely less than that per month it is a great alternative!

Very nice, unfortunately can't justify a 6 series at moment, although was looking at 6 series Vert today at local BMW dealers.

I may ping you in next month or so on 1 series or X1 (don't ask - wives arrghhh).

Looks an excellent deal for a lot of car though

I don't have enough of a clue about finance deals to judge if this "£5000 in/4 years/10k miles per annum £650 per month." is good or bad, but is this not £5k+ 48*£650 = £36,200 for 4 years use?

The average price after discount of a reasonable spec 335d/435d is pretty close to £36,200, and after 4 years/10k miles it may be worth £18k, so it appears to me that the 640d lease will be about double the 335d/435d outright ownership cost over 4 years?

I appreciate that I have ignored the (modest) cost of capital, but perhaps I have also misunderstood something more significant?

Not sure about your maths on the 3/435d

A decent spec one will be close to £600pm but with maybe only £2.5k down, which over 4 years totals £31,300

So nowhere near half the price!

I think he was essentially comparing a pcp with a straight purchase.
6 series would be 36 k over 4 years and hand back ?
Buy a 335 etc. keep 4 years and it's still worth 18k ? So cost would be 18 k but there is interest too of course and payments will be different etc.

Surely there's no point comparing a lease to a straight purchase though?

I was making that comparison, but only because I have never bought a car on finance so just comparing with my cost of ownership. Interest rates are extremely low though, and I expect most of us could borrow at 3-4% or below if needed.

Some of the PCP deals like that on the frequently mentioned hatchback, which shall remain nameless, appear to be cheaper than buying outright, but perhaps they are the exception.

I think it puts some PCP deals into perspective so yes I think there is a point for some people, certainly would for me as I can do the two different routes.
Depends on what you want.

It's a bit like when some people compare different types of cars

Yes compare PCP to purchase on the same car, but to say a PCP on one car is expensive because a purchase on another car is cheaper is pointless i meant!

It's not that far off my monthly payment, but my final payment is half that and the mileage in my deal is double that!
I'd love a 640d but won't be happening.

6k I think, or around that. I put in enough to peg my monthly at £650 with 25k miles per annum. Final payment is 11 or 12k

Looks like a cracking deal! I was quoted on a 6 series OTR £64k (so £10k less):

£550 p/m
£5k in
8000 miles
48 Months
£20k Final Payment

Riaz offer looks like a steal in comparison! About £6k less than what I was quoted.

I'm never sure whether or not to go for PCP and what mileage.

Do You get the deal at 8k pa on PCP, do 25k pa, pay the difference at the end of PCP and use the money to offset your mortgage?

I got the mini on PCP because the apr was 1.9apr and they was a extra £500 incentive. But swmbo is struggling to keep it under 8k pa.

The Bmer pcp, because of the big brake wait, changed and the final payment went down with the monthlies went up. This ended up with £4.5k of interest @4.9apr so I bought outright.

I do not think there is necessarily one correct answer unfortunately!

At the moment we see cars as a monthly cost so the pcp makes sense, but my wife may go freelance in which case we would probably buy outright and reduce set monthly commitments.

There are loads of examples on here like, for that money you could buy a second hand ......

Or comparing cars which have huge differences in list prices / types etc.
