Any RWD cars in Chicago?
Interested in a new 335 but the only thing to test drive is the x-drive. No Chicago dealers have any RWD cars. I don't want to start an x-drive vs RWD tread but anyone in Chicago regret not getting x-drive? Has anyone ordered a RWD car with Msport package - how is it on the Chicago streets?
Thanks Last edited by cb804; 05-23-2015 at 09:16 AM.. |

Im sure RWD with winter tires would be fine but winter weather in chicago is unpredictable. I have a 328i and x drive has come in hand numerous times but not enough for me to consider getting a AW again, get the RWD

I have an XI. The I will get better gas mileage and make more power with mods.Unless you do crazy commutes in the winter then I would just go with the I.

I'm in Milwaukee and just picked up a rear drive 335. I'm not overly concerned, as the previous poster said with proper winter tires the car will do fine. I had middle of the road winter rubber on my old Accord (Firestone Winterforce) and it was amazing the difference that made. The car was very stable no matter what was on the road, and braking/steering were probably 80% as good as what they were in summer. That car didn't have traction or stability control either.

Have a 2013 335i with winter tires. Depends how you drive and what you want. Haven't been stuck once, not even on ice in the alley by my garage. I wish I had a M diff. Where do you live in Chicago?

I have a 328i with winter tiers. I got stuck ones in a alley in the four years I had the car. Unless we get a crazy snow storm you'll be find with it.

I have an XI with winter tires and honestly it's not significantly better then my M5 on winters... Looking back I would consider purchasing a rwd or looking at the m3 (preowned proly).
Keep in mind if you bottom out the car on the snow then you're screwed regardless of what car it is.

i am on my 3rd rwd 3 series (325i, 335d, 328i) in the chicago area... never an issue. I am typically the guy still going 75 in the snow. only thing you sacrifice is initial acceleration due to the traction control being very "smart"

I have had only RWD BMWs since 2001. Just about to order my 6th. RWD with snow tires is better than AWD, as I have had several Jeeps and a Land Rover, and as long as the snow isn't so deep that your pushing it with your bumper your good to go. I live in NWI and have seen some heavy snowfall and roads that are generally less clean than in Chicago or Chicago suburbs.
