FRG's 335d - ACS springs now fitted

Hi everyone,

I've been a member on Bimmerpost for a few years now having had an E90 25d then an F10 30d. The F10 went on Monday and the new one was dropped off.

It's a 64 plate with a decent spec, no M Sport Plus pack but it's got adaptive headlights (a must for me and was on my F10), pro nav, extended interior light pack, memory and heated front seats, split fold seats, online, apps, real time traffic and probably a few other things. Service pack too

I had the black grilles and the sill decals fitted by the dealer prior to me getting it and have a list of other things to do. It had been in my hands for less than half an hour on Monday before I ordered the ACS springs (thanks Lorcan ), they're getting fitted on Friday. Other stuff coming this week is rear 13mm spacers, M3 lip spoiler and gloss black mirror caps. I already have some 10mm spacers from my F10 that will be going on the front of the 335. Can't decide on M Performance interior trims and Bowkers rejected my 3 offers on ebay , I may still take them up on the counteroffer though.

Compared to the 530d it's no where near as luxury and that car did have a lot of toys on it but I fancied going back to a 3 as I prefer the more sporty feel/look. I'm very, very happy with it though but will be even happier when I've finished with the mods which may include a BavSound upgrade I also can't decide on wheels, I love 359M's but can't decide on what to do as the AG ones are too aggressive for the rear so I may end up running a 20x9" square set up but stagger the tyres, not sure yet.

I'll update here as I do more stuff to the car.

Here's some pics of the new one and a couple of my previous 'daily's'

Thanks

Dave

Very nice!

Couple of things, the M3 lip spoiler is very small, wouldn't you prefer the M Performance style one, they're less than £100 ready painted from ebay?

Also why not get carbon fibre mirror caps instead of gloss black, mine were £74 from ebay and look great!

Thank you.

I prefer the smaller spoiler. I was ogling a YMB F80 at a motor show last weekend and decided that was for me. It's coming painted from SSDD so I'm confident it'll be good quality.

I'm just a bit on the fence with carbon which is why I can't make my mind up about the interior. I wanted fineline anthracite as I had in my F10 but it's £200 more than the M Performance, they were dealer quotes though. I ended up painting the carbon splitters on my E90 as I couldn't decide about it.

i dislike the carbon exterior pieces also. they look good but are deffinatly not to my tastes. That being said the carbon pieces on a white one like yours can look damn awesome, but probably no more awesome than black

id second the bigger spoiler thing, that little one is kind of pointless and the m perf one isnt exactly huge itself but, each to their own ..

i love those little stickers on your black grills!! ive seen some grills with these on in a different way and they look totally stupid. but yours look subtle and spot on! might have to treat myself :P

Love those wheels on the F10.

I wonder how much folk move between 3 and 5 series. If I was buying again I'd probably go for a 5!

I've ordered the M3 spoiler now so no changing. I'm sure it'll be alright?!?!

The stickers are just three separate 20mm wide stripes from eBay http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=150811878502

Thanks, they're Breyton Race GTS 20". I would have liked them on the 335 but the rears are 10.5 ET35 so no good really.

My next one will be a 5 I think, possibly a touring. I was in two minds this time around but an LCI 5 with all the toys of my last one was going to cost me about 40k.

Enjoy this one first - before thinking about changing!

PM me if you want more toys fitted! I've got the names of a couple of fitters that will retrofit - at a reasonable price by using second hand parts.

I've had the folding mirrors and reversing camera done and looking at comfort access and surround view. I'm sure if I asked nicely I could get merino leather

May not have the MS+ pack but your car does have Sun protection glass, Xenons & 19" wheels so only the HK missing

Your old F10 looks very smart

I went from an e61 to my current f31. If I was doing more miles and in the car on my own I'd happily be in a f11 now.

ACS springs fitted

Springs and spacers fitted this morning at Shark Performance then over to PW Pro for the mirror caps and the spoiler (which didn't get delivered ), hopefully I'll get it for next weekend and Paul at PW said he'll fit it then. Probably have to supply him with more cakes and biscuits though!

I'm really pleased with the ACS springs, the ride is as was but the look of the car is sooo much better and the black mirror caps do the trick too. I got it washed this evening and headed out late on with the camera to try and catch the sun before it went down. Hope you like it.

I'm trying to resist the ACS route ... But it's hard when you photos like that!

My previous car was a 530d M Sport - F10. I won't be getting another 3 after this one. It's too small, not as well sound insulated as the 5 and doesn't look as impressive. I'm 6'2" and forever fiddling with the electric seat adjustment trying to find that compromise (each time I fiddle, I save the new setting), never did this in the 5! I'll either go back to the 5, or a 6 GC next.

Size wise I like the 3 series, the 5 is a little on the large side for car parks and B roads. But you're totally right about the road and wind noise, it's much worse in the 3 series. And the general level of for and finish in the interior is a low rent compared to the 5 series.

I've had a 5, but much prefer the 3. Unless all you are doing is munching motorway miles the 5 is ungainly and to be honest I found it a bit of a reverse tardis. Strangely lacking in rear leg room I found. Mrs hated the size too.

Nice car OP.

Cheers guys.

This ACS suspension really is a fantastic ride, it feels so good on the road. There isn't a hint of harshness in the spring rate which has pleased me no end as I did expect the car to be a bit harder on the ride. It's miles better than stock and I think if I ditch the RFT's and get some proper rubber on it'll feel awesome.

For anyone who's thinking of ACS lowering their car - DO IT, you will not be disappointed. I've threatened to do it to every one I've had and never taken the plunge, wished I had now! Insurance only went up by £26 too and that's with the decals, spoiler (not yet arrived!), grilles and spacers all declared. Happy days.

No problem. I'll put some more up when the spoiler is on and I think it seems to have settled a little more. I should have measured it but I couldn't be bothered.
