335d build thread - Remap started

After selling my skoda fabia vrs mk1 (290bhp 420ftlbs) I decided I needed a new project and this time it is in the form of this BMW 335d Msport.

The car is a much better place to be sat in but as of yet is missing the "va va voom" of the fabia. Yes it is quick in standard form but no where near as mental as the fabia was lol.

Standard graph showing 273bhp and around 370ftlbs (330 is the average)

As with the last build this one will be taken quite far to reach some silly figures I hope

Plans at present are:

upgrade FMIC
Remove EGR
Remove DPF
Remap
Remove swirl flaps

Once that's done and has been bedded in will look at upgrading the turbos to see a tad over 400bhp and 550 - 600ftlbs with any luck. Once the power side of things have been sorted I will begin to tidy the car up a little but that will come much later on lol.

A LSD may also make it onto the car depending how twitchy it becomes but seems rather sedate in current form.

Car is booked in this weekend for a few tweaks which I will post the results of in here.

Small update:

Manage to get some time on the ramp to see what could be squeezed out of the car in "standard" form.

Before Starting the dreaded IC pipe got checked and changed. Very leaky indeed.

Replaced with a nice new forge pipe

Then we ran it again to see what if any difference fitting the pipe had made. Glad to say yes it did help and proves if its leaking you ARE loosing power.

Before (blue) and after (red). The main difference it seems is the amount of torque being lost.

We then spent a good few hours tweaking the map, got to 8 maps in the end. Time soon caught us out so had to settle on these as final figure for now. We hope to be able to get abit more out of her yet. The engines are amazing to say the least.

343bhp & 510ftlbs (484ftlbs average)

Safe to say the car has been transformed and the increase is well worth the money. The way the car now accelerates is quite scary hitting silly figures rather quickly

Definitely great engines. I'm running over 400bhp and can get 45mpg on the motorway.

I recently upgraded FMIC, EGR delete, DPF delete pipe, swirl blanks, Turbo Dynamics hybrid turbos and a custom remap. Got 422bhp and 618ft.lbs. It is absolutely mental now. It's scary how fast you go, i hardly put my foot down, a quarter to a half pedal is enough!!

I would also be interested in who you're going with? I went with Ecotune and have 3 maps to choose from (290bhp, 350bhp and 422bhp). Even going down to the 350bhp map you can certainly feel the loss of power. Stock feels very restricted now.

You're doing all the right things re the swirls. I also replaced the breather valve as well. You might as well do the glow plugs too if one of them is faulty.

I can advise you that the chassis will need improving! You can feel the rear move under WOT. My plan is to get solid aluminium subframe bushes and m3 arms all round. LSD would help 100%!

Love thse sort of things BionicYeti but worth while checking things out first you've done the right thing by remvojng the siwrl flaps and replacing the dreaded intercooler pipe with an uprated Forge item. But goes to show what can be done withtese cars once you get underway as Mo's discovered there's potentual to unlock...Also love the sleeper look too very understated

My car is being done by the lads at Dirty Torque. They worked their magic on my last car and have become good friends now. They specialise in diesel tuning and are real car enthusiasts.

Cant go into too much detail but watch this space

I presume it will be some sort of sts unit which is plugged into the obd port and map chosen to upload.

Bin the dpf and you'll get prob another 40bhp/40ftlbs

I had a forge pipe but after 3 months or so it blew off causing the sharp jubilee clip to cut the hose and it wouldn't sit right .... Had to go buy a new one from Bmw as needed the car for that weekend

Got one back under warranty tho , will go on once this current one fails

Good luck , only thing stopping me going turbos and meth is the fear of gearbox going bang pre lci cars apparently have a weaker box, lsd 100% would help

Yep, its a touchscreen unit that plugs into the OBD and i select which map i want and then it writes it. It also reads error codes.

OP looking forward to seeing your progress. Sounds like your sorted.

Did you notice a big difference after fitting the Forge pipe? I've had a remap done and only after noticed my leaky boost pipe. Gunna change it this weekend. My map came back at 341.8bhp and 591lb / ft torque!! I don't know what these engines are made from but I love them!!

If its leaking then you are loosing boost no matter how little lol. Ok it may not make a MASSIVE difference but you can see from my graphs the torque peaked higher and held for longer too

Dirty Torque have a dyno now then?

They "mapped" my mates bora, where "mapped" means they stood around waiting for some bloke in the USA to actually write the map so they could flash it onto the car. Didnt have a dyno either, which pissed us off quite a bit as they expected us to go flooring it up and down the main road while they did some logging.

They have the Dyno, purchased from Chris at CCtuning. They also do inhouse mapping on most cars. The bloke you speak of is actually part of the business and between him and Karl they do a great job. When it comes to PD engines there isnt much they dont know to be honest.

Decided to go all American and activated the US sidelights. Makes the front look more aggressive

Without being disrespectful, I think people will disagree with what you think.

Only the fronts, they still function as normal indicators / hazard lights. Throws out abit more light in the dark too which is handy.
