Mods..

Has anyone experience of how modifications effect resale value? Just wondering 3 or 4 years down the line what dealers or private sale punters think of lowered cars, chipped engines etc

All of my mods can and will be removed before it goes, so for me they won't affect resale at all.

Have had a number of cars with modded engines and other bits, pretty much all had to sell privately.

Main reason is the limited used car warranty a dealer provides, they can't offer it against non standard parts.

Basically the new owner could not have like for like parts.

Hence most cars go via Pistonheads or dedicated dealers etc.

Think it depends on how far you go. Cosmetic shouldn't make too much of a difference unless you go extreme.

Engine and suspension may put off some buyers but appeal to others. Would imagine with our cars would appeal !!!!

Especially as you might be able to say to the insurers didn't know it was there - eg springs remaps etc.

I may have had a car or two in past that had engine mods and was not made aware of them when I purchased the car, therefore could only inform the insurance company of the facts I knew...

Springs - remove before selling, remap - don't tell them it's remapped, solved!

it depends on your haste to sell at the time, and who your targeting the sale at. a young spunk loving the mods will slap his life savings and left testicle down to take it from you. someone just wanting a ride is gonna give ya peanuts i guess.

Do you think they'd believe I didn't know about the mods I done on my car.

Could claim it's some latent form of schizophrenia !!!

Suppose you have the advantage there of being competent enough to DIY.

wouldn't fancy paying dealers rates to get it done !!!

Get an indy to take the springs off, then sell them which should recoup most of the cost of having them removed.

Yeah it's worth doing it that way, get it done alongside the MOT and have them sell any bits you may need removed.

Had a few exhausts swapped out that way.

If it costs the same to remove them as they'd be worth then what's the point?

And who would buy used springs for anything other than a pittance?

Because the car is worth more/easier to sell if it's not modified.

Have always listed cars in both states of setup with mods and no mods. Usually removed all the bits back to stock that I could and left the rest on

Saying that my mods always been minor and subtle and never had issue selling, be that with remaps or bodywork. As others said depends how extreme you plan to go

I really wouldn't tell anyone about the the springs if you really thought it would make a difference. Another thing about going ACS is they're a reputable BMW tuner. And if anyone has any queries then point them in the direction of this forum!

I accept engine mods may be more of a concern to many though, and this is where a piggyback ecu may be better.

Benefit of a PPK when it comes to resale - doesn't need removing or not declaring. I accept you lose the cash you invested, but the same would be true of a remap.
