Service Pack or not?

I couldn't make my mind up when I bought my car whether to go for the service pack or not. Its on a 4 year PCP, I only do 8-10k a year, so if I keep it for the full 4 years, I'd probably get two services out of it, which I guess would make it worthwhile.

However, if I decided to change earlier, say at 3years when the warranty runs out, I'd probably only have had one service, so unless the remainder of the service pack has some residual value, it's likely to be cheaper just to pay for the one service.

I've got 2 months from purchase to get the service pack, and really can't make my mind up as to what the best approach is, so any advice welcome...

I'm also interested to hear opinions on this, I didn't add it when I ordered today but was told I can sort it when I collect the car on delivery day.

How much is the service pack?

And how come you didn't manage to haggle it for free like many others have?

Be careful with service intervals. My 325d has done just over 12k since last May and it's saying Service due in 800 miles. So I'm guessing service interval also depend on driving habits? I do a lot of short hops around town.

I pushed for it but I couldn't really say too much considering what I got them down to for all the options I added. I'm more than happy to pay for it when the time comes.

I'm in the same situation for the 435i I got at the weekend said i'd let them know this week whether I wanted it.

Again approx 10,000 per year got it for at least 4 years probably longer.

+1. My first service came up at 12k miles.

I think it's worthwhile but also got mine as part of the deal. Even so I think it's probably still-worth having as your essentially paying for your services up front and guarding against inflation. Service pricing like everything else will undoubtedly go up over the course of the term of the service pack.

Perhaps you could twist their arm and ask for a discount if they can't throw it in?

Does anyone really get it for free or is it just part of the overall discount deal they put together?

I ordered it with both cars but the 330D I traded in after 20 months so I only got one service. Not really value for money unless you know you will get 2 services from it.

I'm in the same boat, although I own my car outright. I've got a few more days to decide but I think I'm just going to go ahead and buy it.

I have it on good authority that if it was 'thrown in for free' then maybe there was a little more wriggle room left in the deal.

I'd hazard a guess you got the money off the car in the first place

That's a good point. Quite a lot of my mileage is short trips, so it may not get to the full 18000miles it was showing to start with. I'll probably just go for it.

Mine was free as part of standard deal, definitely no more 'wiggle room '

I thought it was pretty standard to get the service pack thrown in, i've even got it on my lease despite not asking or paying for it!

But from what others have said above maybe it's not always the case then?

Maybe I've got that wrong . I seem to remember reading a post by TRL saying that there was no discount on the service pack (so I guess if its included in the deal then it forms part of the discount).

I was told today that there was no discount available on the service pack hence why I was happy enough to take discount on the car itself and decide on the service pack later.

I believe it's due to it being provided by BMW UK and not a dealer.

Nothing's ever free! When the dealer says you can have service pack for free all that's happening is from say 1000£ Margin as an example 475£ has been reserved aside to cover the "free service pack" leaving 525£ off the car . Sales team aren't targeted on service packs- I believes after sales are but giving them away there's no point.

It's also so that not every dealer would benefit from giving the pack foc as if the customer is from out of town the ££ to a service dept will follow them. Especially as 3 of the commenters are my customers ( appreciate the business again )only 1 is local!!

Hope this makes sense.

Will only be keeping my car for 2 years, so would never get value out of it and was told it wouldn't help come trade in, so didn't personally go for it. As Riaz says above, anyone who did get it 'free', it will have come off some other part of the deal elsewhere.

Garage List
I did get mine for free due to my car being delayed with the brake shortage as BMW UK offered it as part of my compensation. It does also include brake fluid changes on top of services.
