Head Unit mafunctioned & being replaced

Got in to my 2014 228 the other day and the head unit/display wouldn't fully boot up. Kept getting the "bmw" logo on screen...would hang there.... then go blank and try booting again to no avail.

Took it in for service and the guy said that the whole head unit needs to be replaced. They needed to order the parts and it would take 1-2 full days to do the work.

Any one else having problems with their head unit? Strange that these types of problems wouldnt be figured out yet as the service guy said he even has some problems with his 3 series head unit.

I had the same thing happen to me, they replaced the entire computer and display even.

My friend had it replaced last year on a 2013 328i xDrive. I think it's more common on these base head units since they don't have the same type of cooling that the Nav head units have.

I don't really see many CIC's or NBTs fail on these forums.

It's under warranty so I'll just let them do the job and hopefully it won't happen again.

Good thing yours is being replaced under warranty. I have to pay out of pocket for mine.

Still in the process of figuring out total costs
Reservoir tank leaked -> coolant went into the alternator -> i lost all electric power in the car (dash, navigation, transmission locked) -> thought it was a dying battery -> tried to drive the car back to the house -> turns out there was no coolant in the engine and it was overheating ( there was no way for me to know since the dashboard was off).
After we get all these fixed we need to check the ECU and engine.
Car might be considered totaled

Wowza! My reservoir tank leaked/rptured on my E46 but it was Winter and I suddenly wasn't getting heat. Took the heat from auto mode into regular, and noticed the engine temp started to climb. Shut the car down and had it towed at that point. You bring up an interesting point though with no temp gauge on the F22 and losing electronics, no way of knowing if you are having an issue.

Good Luck, hope you don't get stuck too bad in the cash department.

I have the full Nav etc. They replaced everything in mine. It would get stuck in a reset loop for about 5 minutes on cold starts.

Obviously fairly random issue. Shi& happens. I had a failed unit in my e92.
