Battery drain w/engine off, OBD2 scanner plugged in

I am planning to use an OBD2 scanner with the DashCommand app for iPhone. It all seems to work well on installation.

I can be forgetful about doing things like disconnecting the scanner from the data port when leaving the car. I have a feeling that it still pulls from the battery even with the engine off. Can anyone confirm if this is something to watch out for, whether it's ok just to pull the scanner out (as opposed to any other kind of disconnection procedure) and intel regarding battery usage for these scanners even with engine on would be helpful. Many thanks.
