Yes I run map 1 for my daily setup plus here in Cali we only get 91 octane out of the pump.

So essentially you blew your motor running JB4 Map 1? Or are you in fact running a bigger turbo and more modified setup?

He does have bigger turbos but running map 1 boost for daily driving.
Lets first wait to see what caused the motor failure before pointing fingers. Remember that sometimes engines fail when car is completely stock

Yeah I am not pointing fingers at anyone. I just wanted to write up a thread so if others run into a scenario like mine they'll know what to expect.

None of that tells us they 'detected' a tune.. all of those remarks are VISUAL.

Charlie@McKennaBMWService can explain more in detail how that process works but long story short... the ECUs in our cars save EVERYTHING which makes every parameter traceable.

It says aftermarket downpipe and turbo caused more boost, does not say anything about the tune. If anything this proves that even in the worst case scenario the JB4 is undetectable.

Thank you for the clarification but you are addressing the cause of the failure which is another debate on its own and will be impossible to know based on all the mods on the car.
OP said that dealership detected the Jb4 but the report does not mention this.
The car has a bad engine, the JB4 was removed. From the report it sounds that the dealership could not detect the JB4 has ever been installed on this car. Is this correct?

Realize you are talking TO the dealership.. haha.

edit: nm my previous N55 comment, OP has an N20.. I was glossing over the fact the OP billed his car as an M235i 'killer' which means he was pushing the 228i/N20 wayyy past it's rater power. HOWEVER, OP also says it happened while running Map 1? On an aftermarket turbo... there you go, again that just points to tuning issues/user mistake.

This is not going to get anywhere. You keep saying it is detectable i keep saying then why didnt the report mention the piggyback? they mentioned the turbo and downpipes because they could see them. JB4 fools the ECU into thinking that boost is normal, so all the data stored will have normal boost values.
At the end of the day, this is very unfortunate to OP. Sorry to hear that and i wish you better luck in the future.
