n00b q. about wheel sizes

Hello...

So I hear the default summer setup is 'staggered tires'. Question. If I bought my M235 w/ the no-seasons (sigh I know, I'll replace when they are done for)... do I have the same wheels everyone has, and it's just tolerance and therefore I can stagger when later I replace w/ summer rubber? Or are the wheels a different size in any way?

What are no-seasons?? Do you mean all season tires?

The all season run flats come 225/40/18 all around. While the staggered are 225/40 and 245/35.

The staggered ones have bigger width wheel in the back as well. An 8" vs a 7.5"

Basically I've seen those numbers but somewhere I thought that the width number (7.5/8) is a TIRE width, not an actual measurement of the wheel. Thus my original question, are the wheels what allow/disallow putting wider tires at the back?

In part because I bought wheels from a forum guy, a winter tire setup that IIRC he mentioned were the original staggered but he fitted winter tires squared. Is there a measurement on the wheel stamped somewhere?

No that's wheel width. Tire width is the first set of numbers (225 or 245, etc)

I put 245s on my 7.5 (it came with 225)

7.5/8 (measurements in inches) are for wheels, stuff like 225/245/255 (in mm) are for tyres.

Recommended fitment from manufacturer is as follows:

225/40/18 range is 7.5-9" wheels
245/35/18 range is 8-9.5" wheels

Even though you can put 245 on 7.5" stock wheels, you shouldn't do it. Get proper wheels Plenty of guys with OEM wheels they are selling, and plenty of good aftermarket options.
