2016 G11/12 BMW 7 Series Long Island Event

Who’s attending the 2016 G11/12 BMW 7 Series Long Island Event?

If so, which day and time? I’ll be there Thursday evening…

I went last night. Was a great little event although the presentation in the private small garage was terrible. Not BMW's fault- they expected to show the car outside but it was raining.

I really like the car although I am not one to debate the finer details of what has changed over the last 7 as I am a 3-series guy myself.

Thanks, Bill.

Sounds like there should've been a backup plan; i.e.: a tent.

Was self parking available or was valet parking mandatory?

Valet parking mandatory. Was cool to see about 50 BMWs all down the road for a few blocks. OK I guess you could park your car on the street and walk in but this is the kind of event that I think one should make their grand entrance at the door… You'll be getting some really good food that will cover the $5 valet tip. We went back to the living room of the house early while others were still looking at the car and wolfed down about 5 plates each of finger food… Priorities, man!

Ha; touché!

Yes, just that I'm OCD when it comes to valeting.

Can't wait.

Thanks!

Understood. I used to be OCD with Valets long ago. This is one place you don't have to worry- not a tight parking lot. Just a long suburban street. Also, every car there is a similar car to your own so it won't stand out or anything and these were good valet guys.

I attended this event tues night and found it to be well organized. Unfortunately the weather tues was bad so we didn't get to see the car outside but the white msport made up for it. The event was held in a spectacular mansion overlooking Long Island sound, they had a LCI m6 gc, an i8, and m4 on display which you could get into. They showed a short film, about 15-20 min, highlighting the carbon core and new technology, 0-60: 4.4s, and only one wheelbase (long). After that we were invited to the garage in smaller groups to view the car.

Ext:

The car was a mineral white like color 750i msport with a dark brown interior. I was disappointed with the leaked photos that have been out for months and was hoping the mpackage would fix that, it does. The front looks like an evolution of the f02 much more aggressive like the x5 great headlamps. The profile looks good the car had a lot of chrome trim not shadow line, gloss black like the lower grills would look good but a minor gripe. Rear end was what I was most worried about but it looked good. In person the car had great presence it looked longer wider and lower than my last f02. No hood cut line that's good the strip between kidneys was black stood out in a white car but as I would get black or carbon not to worried about it.

Interior:
The benchmark at this point is the Benz s550 which has an amazing interior and has forced everyone in the segment to raise their game. New 7 catches up and although some of it is optional passes it in some regards. The rear seats get a tablet to control all functions of the car (galaxy tab w/ custom firmware) footrests, fragrances, solid metal on all buttons the standard hvac temp display seemed oled and really nice, ton of ambient lighting and options backlit speakers etc (bordering on too much) . A lot of customization options diamond stitching, an msport interior sample was shown. Overall felt a huge step up from my 2012 740li, I'm sure a lot of it was optional extras but it was beautiful.

Tech:
I can't imagine how many computers there are in this new 7. The level of tech is staggering cameras everywhere. Touch screen very iPad like pinch to zoom etc, idrive good as ever it I was surprised that the hand gesture control was actually intuitive and it worked for almost everyone. It will definitely take a while to learn how to use everything in the car. Hud 75% larger, wireless charging for phones and the insane remote key which is a little big but very cool, lte hotspot, way better voice command, remote parking and laser headlights aren't approved for USA yet. I'm sure I've forgotten a few but overall I was impressed some of it seems gimmicky but BMW showing s little forward thinking, ie adding touch an gesture but keeping idrive. However, the sheer amount of new tech would keep me from "beta testing " a first year model.

Came away impressed with the new car look forward to test driving it.

Yeah I was surprised by this as well offering the short body was one way the 7 kept the edge as a drivers car in its segment. I asked to confirm and it was mentioned in the film. They claim with the carbon core shedding weight from the top the car should be dynamically better than f01/02.

Glad it's not in europe, but lack of good diesel engines will hurt sales.
They need big power on the diesel front.
Audi and Porsche have good diesels now.
