Hail and water damage
About six weeks ago my car was parked at a local resturant when a storm came through dropping golfball size hail. Broke my sunroof. Resulting in about an inch of water in the bottom of the car and $10,000 worth of body damage. Insurance did not total the car and I just got it back. Within the first 50 miles I started noticing problems.
To me this seems like a water into the electronics type problem. What components are under the seats/carpet/console whic could be causing this? Last edited by SimplyBS; 06-02-2015 at 12:30 PM.. Reason: add pictures |

They didn't total a flood car? I would call my insurance company and demand they total it. I would not want any car after a flood in my ride. Mold issues later on and electronics. You can end up getting cancer over a period of many years and etc. Tell them to fix all that its from the incident.
Sell that thing ASAP to a dealer. |

There is a footwell module below the footrest on the driver side. I remember someone posting with CAN communication issues that there was a faulty joint near the footwell module.
I agree with the others. Get it totaled or sell it soon. |

As soon as I saw hail damage, I thought OP must be in Texas. Why we get all of the crazy weather is only understood by the almighty weather controller. Sucks that you got water damage in a non flooding way. We get it the normal way here (Houston). Corrosion in those connectors drives the modules crazy. Make insurance fix it or buy it (total)

Being told by State Farm I have to pay to prove the electrical issues are due to the water. Thanks for the input. I cleared the codes and one by one they are returning and brought some friends. Today the car acted like someone briefly slammed on the brakes and they cruise control shutoff. Pulled the codes again and now there are two against the ABS and one against the transmission

Pay the dealership to do an inspection and get their notes on it. Then ask for state farm to reimburse for the inspection because it was due to the hail/water damage and therefore would go against the original claim.
I agree that its insane they didn't total it initially. They are going to spend way more now than they would have it they'd done the right thing. Or, get a lawyer. That can end things quickly.
