Is there a way to make the 2 series make a sound when I press close button on keyfob?

My X5 and X1 both make a "beep" sound when closing doors and double "beep" when opening the door with the keyfob. The new 235 doesn't make any sound, and I've searched all settings to no avail. Am I missing something?

I think you can get it to flash the lights.

Not to jack the thread here but so say I don't have the alarm option on my car, besides the beep does that also mean if someone breaks in it's not going to sound off? To be honest, that would be a little ridiculous if not....

That is what an alarm is, and no, it is not standard. $400 addon when I was purchasing mine. I don't worry about having an alarm here but back when I live in Queens, probably would!!

yea you need the $400 add on beep sound maker

not much of an alarm IMO

and i'm not sure if there is a retrofit, read somewhere that cars don't come pre-wired anymore

I coded on my MINI the heartbeat-red glow that indicates an alarm... even though I didn't have the alarm option!

Would love it if there was a similar coding option for these cars (and I've already coded, so just need to go see about it)

Look at your key fob. If you have the panic button on the key than you have the alarm. If so it will flash and beep. If not you can still get it to flash in the settings portion of your iDrive.

What's the variable name you coded?

Alarms are mostly useless nowdays, except at waking people up at odd hours. I had one added to my Z3 only for the remote lock/unlock as an aftermarket alarm/remote was pretty cheap so figured why not.

But honestly I wouldn't worry about it, other than making beeps, they are quite useless on our cars.

Can the factory alarm be added after the fact? How easy is it?

I know the lights flash when it's locked, including the turn signals on the outside mirrors, but I like having the reassuring "beep" when I lock the car, but having to add an otherwise useless $400 option to get a beep that you get for free on a Kia is ridiculous. Shame on BMW! Also, putting the red light on the bottom of the rear view mirror that does nothing if you don't have the alarm is like putting a sign on your windshield that says, "This car does NOT have an alarm".

For as much as BMW charges for it's cars they can be really cheap on the basics, like a simple "beep" to the let the owner know that the car is locked.
You shouldn't need an alarm just to have notification that you just locked your car.
My mother's old very basic 2004 Nissan Alitma with no alarm had a quick horn honk to let her know she locked the doors. Very simple, very cheap, BMW just has to complicate it and then charge for the complication.

In Germany, the sounding of the car horn when arming/disarming a car alarm is not allowed.

Hmm didn't realize no beep without the alarm and the red (unlit) light is still there? That's assinine. I am really on the fence about the alarm but maybe this changes my mind.

Spoiler alert: BMWs are made in Germany.

That really has nothing to do with this discussion. The cars built for the U.S. With alarms do have the option of audible sound when arming the system, regardless of the laws in Germany.

I just go "beep, beep" whenever I press the lock button on my fob.

I wish the card made an audible confirmation of being locked but instead, I coded my car to have the side mirrors fold in when I lock my doors.
