Thanks so much Jason- the minute this thing launched yesterday I was looking forward to the visual comparo posts you always do........

Now for all the haters out there you can clearly see there are really only 3 big differences with the F01.

1.The more aggressive sloping front- not as blunt as before and with more detail
2.The "hockey stick"
3.The thinner rear lights with extended chrome

Very modest update IMHO.....

I like the interior door panel from the old, much sleeker. The new one is kind of over-designed.

Yawn

Lightly re-heated LCI passing off as a new platform from an exterior design perspective: bland, boring, not moving the game ahead.

The Interiors and the electronics are definitely moving the game forward.
Just wish they didnt have all those burnished aluminium trim surfaces but does appear there are options to be had.

The CRPF core structure and weight loss is an amazing move but few will understand or switch on account off it.
Suggestions that the S-class is dead or people are going to trade it in are total BS - in fact the new Audi Prologue inspired A6/A8 will give this entire segment a huge fillip.
Not to mention (surprise!) the new Volvo S90 that looks fabulous.

Anyone know what the 3D Surround View looks like? Intrigued.

For whatever reason it bugs me when there is a chrome surround for the exhaust but you can still see the unfinished steel tips hidden within.

You also notice the design elements flow and mesh better with one another. The old one was a lot of shapes stuck inside of and next to other shapes and didn't harmonize with adjacent shapes/items. Overall pretty nice but the front headlights are still a bit awkward

What's the deal with the 7 series? It has over 3 generations not improving on the looks department. It got outdone by the S class, again...

I personally don't like the silver buttons and dials on the centre stack. I feel that they remind me of cheaper economy cars as this is often seen in those types of cars.

I'm not going to lie though, I am clearly not the target demographic, so I'm not sure how others feel about it.

S class has good curves on outside, while inside the dash looks like a BUS. 7er has good interior while exterior is bland but tasty.

Silver button are metal made, not plastic coated. It feels & looks luxury.

When you see it side by side you see the progression much more. I love this car!

The S Class isn't going anywhere. Somewhere in Germany, MB executives are laughing cause they know that the S Class will keep its crown in this segment.. Especially in sales where it really matters. All one has to do is look up the various models, such as the S600 Maybach edition, the S Class Coupe, and the S63/65 AMG models to know how much ground BMW needs to make up. MB is busy making ultra-luxury and here, we all getting excited over hand gesturing.

Seriously what is up with the design?
The more I look, the more dated it looks.
Visually, S-class wins hands down.

Better. But why this obsession with longer and longer cars? Are roads getting bigger? The f01 had a better broader sholder line. A nice lci. Dissapointed with weight loss. At some point it was in the air a 1700-1800 kg 7 ser. Its still 2 tonnes!! Jaguar weights less and has no cf! And its a 5 year old car - 10 year old design
