N20/N26 Coolant parts lifespan?

I tried searching but didn't see anything but if I missed it then I apologize. In regards to those with the N20/N26 with high mileage, at what point did you change out the water pump and thermostat? Just curious as I'm used to changing those parts at around 60K miles with the M5x family engines. Even though I'm not close to that mileage, just would like to see what other members opinions/thoughts on this. Thanks.

I hear ya...my last car was an E39 with an M54 engine so I know all about exploding radiators, pinhole leaks in expansion tanks and stuck thermostats. The cooling system in F30 is very similar to E60. The electric water pump is much more durable (no more plastic /composite impeller). The radiators are no longer plastic and the expansion tank has a much better design.

My friends with E60 have gone 80k miles before needing any kind of cooling system overhaul so you should be good for at least that much. Their maintenance was also preemptive so the parts did not fail even at that mileage.

Thanks, glad that BMW seems to have finally passed that dreadful coolant disaster from those past models, especially the M30. My 535i blew a head gasket because of a busted coolant hose. Never went into the red and had to get a new head gasket
