Erratic Oil level, now water pump warnings
Hello,
I am at the beach and yesterday my 2007 328i started giving me occasional low oil warnings and also read "Inactive" for the oil sensor. Then today, twice I got yellow, then red thermometer style warning light (Looks like water pump is failing). These two symptoms only started after I drove through some standing (probably salty) water a couple times. During the first thermo warning I turned on my OBDII app on my smartphone and got normal temp readings. Car had just been running a few minutes, temp was climbing from 75 C to 100C, where it stabilized. I have read several threads about these readings being related, but most were from 335 owners. I assume my temp reading on my OBD is the coolant temp. I have not seen anything conclusive about the link between these warnings/sensors. I am wondering if my weird readings are just due to salt water on connectors. Car has 144K, original pump. Last edited by sredwine; 06-13-2015 at 03:41 PM.. |

Still flaky-got some codes
Using the Carly Lite app, I read some codes. These are the ones that may mean something:
002E9F Failure of oil quality sensor 002F9E Thermo-oil sensor 00DE51 Unknown DTC fault I see nothing about the coolant pump. Is it possible to clear codes with the Lite version? I have not found a comprehensive list that covers all codes (including these) for the E90. |

Update
It was the oil sensor. The thermometer style warning can mean either or both your oil and coolant are too hot-limp home mode kicks in either way. What threw me was the low oil and over temp warnings occurred on different days, or at least never coincided. Cost over $600 at the dealer, but got us home from Florida.
