Carbon Fibre Mirror Caps - help
Has anyone fitted the Carbon Fibre mirror caps? I'm not sure if I should just go for the stick on type caps that fit over the colour coded mirrors or go for the OEM Carbon Fibre full mirror back replacement. Anybody have any experience with either?

Go for the replacement, the stick on ones look crap.
RW carbon has full replacements for something like $200USD.

Yea go with full replacement caps. RWcarbon for the price is great, it's not perfect, but very fast delivery, and they sent me replacement caps when one of them was faulty.
If you do go BMW m performance ones don't suck into paying installation, as it's a 2 mins job!!

I understand that the genuine BMW M performance caps require removing the glass to screw the cap to the mirror housing. The non genuine ones clip in like the the standard caps though.
I have some cheap ones on mine and one is starting to de-laminate.

Older models I believe you have to remove glass etc. But current generation... No that is not required. It just clip on clip off... The replica ones like RW carbon is a complete replica of the M performance ones, hence the turn replica. lol

Thanks for the feedback. Since my original post I've done a bit of research and come to a few conclusions. Yep stick on CF backings do look a little cheap, and yep the OEM colour coded mirror caps come off reasonably easy with a bit of manipulation and yep again the full replacement CF caps are the way to go. However, I note that there are two types of full CF backings, the clip on (like the OEM type) and another full backing that is secured in place with three internal screws. I purposely said, "secured", because as I see it, these mirror backings are easy to get off, so if I'm going to pay $600 for a pair of CF mirror backings I want to be sure that when I return to my parked car, some piece of sh*t hasn't just "ripped them off".
Thanks for the offer stu@bmrautowerkes, will PM you soon.. Last edited by P8tor; 06-19-2015 at 05:44 AM.. |

Ok... Don't think there are 2 types of CF replacement caps. You really need to look into it a little bit more. I got m performance carbon spoiler and front lip through a bmw dealer, even the consultant told me it's a much better option to get replicas as they're identical.
Even on the BMW website it says replacement caps... No screws involved whatsoever http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=730646

Full mirror caps will give you a more finished look. With the stick on ones you will see the edges.
