Excited.....!
So after being in my F30 Msport for a while, ive opted out early and just put a deposit on a new M4 convertible.
Test drove a load of different cars (997, GTR, C63) and just kept coming back to the M4 vert. Love everything about it and i got a fantastic deal on a great car with a brilliant spec. Spec is New from Barons ,Farnborough DCT box Mineral Grey with Silverstone Leather Carbon dash finish 19" Black alloys Convertible comfort pack (deflector, heated steering wheel, neck scarf) Comfort Access Harmon Kardon Sliding arm rest, Extended storage, Through load (yawn) HUD with speed limit display Reverse Camera Adaptive headlights (non LED) with high beam assist M performance black grilles 5 year servicing , A glaze thrown in FOC Got an amazing deal, was in fact cheaper new than a 6month old one with 2000miles on the clock. Also got a MUCH better finance rate so all good On the total upside i thought it would be a post september pick up, but they had a build slot so ill get it in july!!!

Do it! I wasnt planning on getting rid of my 320D Msport (63 plate) for another year, but drove a couple of M4's and an M3 and feel in love. Man mathed my way through the numbers and ignored all the sensible things i should do with the money haha
Crazy thing is, the insurance is only £6pm more than my 320D..go figure!?

Out of interest, did you look at the 991 Porsche, or just the 997..? I'd be interested to read your thoughts as to how you thought the Porsche stacked up against the BMW...

Fast as my 335d is, I'd swap it in a heartbeat for an M car if my annual mileage and business needs allowed for it.

My problem I think is that, whilst my wife has a nice family car, there may be a chance I have to have the kids in the car every now and then. I just found the Porker a little too much to live with on an every day basis. I also think id prefer a GTS 4 or a turbo S. So, went for a brand new M4 at the same price, and will do the Porsche thing properly in 3/4 years time. I just kept coming back to the M4, so easy to live with on a day to day basis and the overall package on a brand new car i guess. Also, ALL the running costs are much cheaper on the M4 as youd expect.

I cannot believe that people pay so much for them now second hand when, for not much more, you can have a new one with the 3 year warranty etc etc. Especially if you are after a sports car.. The trucks and saloons are the ones with the long waits... You can get the sports cars... (OK, maybe not a GT3 or something, because you'll need to get on the list, but the standard production cars are no problem..)... When you think, that 4 year old GTS for £60k wouldn't have cost you all that much more when new... Thing is, it's not great value now at £60k... It's just a reflection of the way the brand residuals are drifting... I blame it on cars like the GT3 and the silly money that folk will pay to get them s/h... I paid £95k for my GT3 as specified, I sold it for £75 in 2012 with 18k miles on it (yes, I was the nutter who used one rain/snow/shine, 24/7..)... Then, that was a pretty good deal... The £20k depreciation on it compared to more like £50/55k depreciation a Turbo S would have suffered in the same time frame back then... But now, for that same GT3, you'd be looking at £100/110k+, as the values on them heads ever further north... (RS's are nearer £200k now..)... This halo seems to shine on the standard models, now... Cars that would not really have held value much better than any other premium brand.. but now do, seemingly... Which does seem a little silly to me... That £60k GTS... you certainly wouldn't have needed anything close to that to buy it 2 or 3 years ago... and I don't think it's worth any more now than it was then... other than the supply and demand factor.. and who's to say where the market will go in the coming years... Oh well... Anyway, sorry for drifting off topic.. I was just wondering what you'd been looking at Porsche-wise and what you thought...

As someone who continually checks 911 prices, an odd thing seems to have happened with them as you say. From what I can work out;
991 hasn't sold well, so the used market was very slow and thus prices were high and not really falling. 997 and previous (excluding the 996) have all shot up in value as seen as the better more analogue car. I also think that new car values for performance models have gone so high that a lot of people can now get a good used 911 for similar money. Bigger market = higher pricing. 991 prices are now reducing used, which is whats of interest to me and why I check. Quote:
