Hey guys,

I have a 2014 328i MSport and have recently notified that my "normal" horn has been taken over by a "clown car" horn. I know this is a known issue in terms of service bulletins but through search, I haven't found the general solution. Anyone had this fixed? Was it the horn or a relay? I'm trying diagnose on my own because my closest dealer isn't very good.

My symptom is that I have only a high pitch horn so either the low-tone is donzo or a relay/fuse issue.

Just wondering if you have had this issue, what was the resolution?

In my case, it was the horn itself.

That's good and easy to test! Seems common, just need to find the horns...

Thanks - I don't have fogs but I put 2 and 2 together, located and tested the horn...it's shot. Time to call the stealership tomorrow and get the replacement low-tone horn shipped! Hopefully they have improved the design. Thanks again guys.

On which side is the low frequency horn located and how do you access it? Through the access panel in the wheel well?
Mine shit the bed.
Thanks,
Joel

Low frequency is on the passenger side. You need to remove the front wheel liner - just turn the wheel out on that side, reach in and undo the headed screws. Reach in and you will find the horn just inside behind where the fog lights are (or would be in the case of most M-Sports since they didn't have them until 2015).

I verified that it was actually the horn and not a fuse/relay with a continuity reader. It was the horn in my case.

If it's the low horn, here is the BMW part number 7300975. It's $74 bucks from BMW but hopefully yours is also under warranty. You can get it online for cheaper, I am certain.

Cheers!

Just a note, I called my dealer and they said that the bulletin actually calls for the replacement of both of the horns so if your under warranty, don't worry which one is out! They will replace both.

I will take a picture of the service report after its done with some information
