2011 N55 JB4 and 91

Looking to buy a JB4 but all I can get around here is 91 Octane. Don't plan on a lot of mods just maybe a CP and K&N. Will it run ok on 91? What Can I expect?

Thanks

You must be in Cali..it runs great on 91..
you can put some e85 in too and that helps. I've found it to be great improvement.

Thanks for the quick response, I've heard of E85 but it's not a must is it?

It has an adaptive map in which the JB4 adapts to the conditions of the engine. Just get it. E85 not required. Do some research.

FYI, Burger Tuning is based on CA.

Yup, leave it on map1 (default map) and you will be fine, or you can try the auto tuning map, map5. Either will work great.

Map 1 is a fixed amount of boost and Map 5 is adaptive. Try both - easy enough since you can switch maps on the fly with the steering wheel controls. I preferred map 5 and then just left it there. It will adapt as you add mods.

I was apprehensive about installation, but a friend helped me and its not too bad.

On the other hand, after having JB4 for about a year, I switched to a custom tune from PTF that is installed via Cobb. If you buy Cobb from PTF they offer a deal for the tune. The custom tune is done specifically for your car - you gather logs and send them and then they create a custom map based on the logs. You load the custom map and do some more logs and they verify its good or tweak if needed.

Just something for you to consider. A pro tune is more expensive but well worth it IMO. Either one, JB4 or Cobb, will put a smile on your face.

No need for further mods or better fuel.
Install it and expect a big difference in power

Jb4 with 91 on my car sucks ass. Barely a difference in power from what I can tell and crazy boost oscillation. Feels pretty good on e85, though.

Something must not be right. Put on map 0 and drive and go to map 1 or 5...should be definite difference. I tried a tank of 100 octane when I first got it and barely notice a difference from 91..I might try that again..the cost is high though.

Thanks for all the support. I'll be looking for one next week, I need an A harness.
P/S - No other mods yet but we all have to start somewhere. I did put some black CSL wheels and will be buying 265 and 235 PSS soon.

This is the 2nd BMW I've owned and by far the best car....

Make sure to check the vendors section and get it from a dealer that offers free shipping. You also want to grab a charge pipe as well.

FMIC key to it all!
If not, it will always fall on its face at higher rpms and you will be like Wtf if you don't get one.

That's actually not true in all cases.

I have stock FMIC and my IATs reach high into the 160s but since I run E50, I still get full boost and full timing advance so I don't suffer from heatsoak whatsoever despite sky high IAT.

Yes. I did several logs and even sent them to bms. I was told that maybe the gas was bad? But I've tried multiple stations with the same result. In my logs, it was peculiar how my throttle line (typically the orange line) kept cutting in and out. :

I've tried that. I've actually even tried racing two different 335i's that were stock and having the jb4 on map 1 made difference compared to having it on map 0.
