Just pulled the trigger on an M135
Couldn't wait for the M2. My beloved e46 325i is leaving me. And I thought 2 M cars was a bit of overkill. Besides I need the 5 seats (3 kids) that the 1 has. I am going to have an LSD installed so it will hopefully handle a bit better at the back end.
Does it sound like I am trying to justify not waiting ? I probably am. I have high hopes that the M2 will be the best all round M car. That thing will be awesome. I just hope BMW does not constrain it so that it doesn't compete with the M3/4. Not confident they won't. Let's wait and see. |

He did, the M135i is all but identical to the M235i other than the rear, but you get the option of 5 doors and it's a lot cheaper, some people don't like the rear of the M235i and why pay a lot more for a car that drives exactly the same? The difference is so small you would be hard pushed to notice it, I test drove both and decided the M135i was a better option, the money you save would buy an LSD

Wouldn't say the 235i and 135i were identical. The 2 has a wider front track and stiffer springs by default. Plus had more power until the 1 facelift. Least most of the 1 series "cosmetic issues" have been addressed now, but the 2 series front lights are still (in my opinion) a lot better executed. If the 2 could give its front lights in exchange for the new 1 series tail lights, both would be sorted. The 5 door 1er is arguably far more practical as well - as is hatch vs sedan. I think it would have been hard for op to justify the M2 with 3 kids when he's already got an M. There isn't a massive amount of compromise in the decision with regards to performance vs practicality in that you'll still have loads of fun, but can actually carry people.

Previously I had a 328i, and after driving my friends 135i, I knew I was in the wrong car. My M235i puts the same smile on my face as the 135i but in a more modern, more attractive package AND, I got an LSD. |

The M235 is a great car, and I suspect the M2 will be a classic.
My only issue is I don't like the 3 kids messing up the Silverstone leather in my M5, so I need a more user friendly DD, which can seat 5. Which is why I went for the M135. If I only needed 4 seats I would have gone for the M235 or the M2. After I put an LSD in the M135 I am sure it will be a decent car to drive around every day. And I have the M5 to blast around in when I want some more extreme fun. |
