From Heaven to Nightmare !!! Just like that BANG :-(((

Went out of the office two days ago ... just for the pleasure of driving under the sun ... Nowhere special to go but I needed to go out with my body ( X1 ) for a short lunch drive ...

Things went south really fast as I went through an intersection on a green light at around 35 mph ... Sadly for us ( me and my buddy X1 ) an employee of a well known drug store in Quebec ran heads down through the same intersection at about 45 mph on a RED light ...

Just to add to our bad luck, this intersection is a little bit hidden by some houses so I wasn't able to see very far away on either side ... Then he went from my left, I saw his official car on my left side as I was engaged ... jumped hard on the break, went for my right with the steering as quick as I could but it was too late :-( and this is the sad result:

Man it hurts !!! The airbags have all deployed except the two on the passenger side (nobody was in the car with me, god bless my family on this tuesday ) ... My left arm and my right leg have suffered some serious burns, from the airbags I think but the X1 has done its job protecting me from the worst. Have it not break hard and fast enough, I would have been hit in my driver door full blast ... Didn't want to think how worst it would have been ...

So bad ... This was My dream car ... I bought it October 2011 ... With the color I wanted, the light, premium and sport pkg, 18" mixte style 322. We were going to celebrate four years with it in a few months ... My son, doughter and wife are almost as sad as me ... I'm not seriously hurt so I'm thankfull about it but I also know I will not be able to get a new one with the same specs as I got in 2011 ...

I still don't know how much my car insurance is going to give to replace it ... The words I've got from my dealer is that it should be considered "totaled" by the car insurance from his first inspection ...

I'm lucky to be in good shape as I write this post but my feelings will need a few more days to digest all this ...

Drive safe everyone !

So sad, but at least the X1 performed its final duty by protecting you.

Yes, airbags deployed = probably totaled. But hopefully you will soon be feeling better and enjoying the search for your next friend.

The combination of silver trim and the 322 18" wheels ... ahhhh

I was able to get the sport pkg by then ... Now to got this kind of look I have to pick the X-Line and it comes only with std seats ?!? No sport pkg ???

BMW Canada is messing with those pkg combination this side of the border ...

Need some love guys ...

Glad you are okay! These cars are built tough. It was one of the reasons that I came back to BMW.

My old 1-series saved my life in 2010 when a deer ran out on the highway in the dark. I was going about 72 mph in a 75 mph zone and had no time to brake.

Rest up and take your time getting back to your normal routine.

Thank's ... It will take some time I think before I can appreciate the fun aspect of driving ... Right now I'm overreacting about every driver I cross on my path :-(

Unfortunately in the configurator, when I select the 800 $ sport seats option , it said that I have to give up the XLine and go to the Sport or M sport option.

So yes the option is in the configurator but it requires M sport or sport ...

Thank's to BMW Canada ...

Maybe my dealer could do something about it ???

I found the configurator to not be accurate for that kind of stuff. I was able to get both the sport seats and xenons a la carte for my no line 2015. I would talk to a dealer if you really want another one before going with something else due to what the website shows.

Really sorry to see that kind of accident, but at least the car did it's job. You should try and take things like the wheels from it if you can and sell them or keep them for your next ride!

The replacement will be a 2015 E84 M Sport mineral grey. I can't wait ...

I really have this car under my skin. Very happy to get an E84. Will keep the 60-40 rear-front power delivery that is so great on the road ... Hope the electric steering will give me enough feedback as my former X1 ( 2012 ) had the hydrolic rack and was flawless in the feedback department ...

For everything else, I should have a lot of fun if I remind the last 4 years with my old friend ...

xDrive28i or xDrive35i? Either way you will still have hydraulic steering. Only the sDrive28i had the electric on the E84s....

Are you sure? I thought all E84 had hydraulic, but that later ones also had electronic assist added as standard for low speed turning.

I will be very intrigued to test it ... Last year I had a Loaner 28i xDrive X1 for a day and I could tell the steering wasn't the same as mine so I thought at the time it was an electric one on the loaner ...

I will made some search and of course the first drive next week will tell what it is exactly ...

Thank's for the information by the way !

Yes, been documented in several threads here and other sites, including responses by BMWNA representatives. Of course this applies to NA E84 models and not necessarily to the rest of the world.
