Which Top Tier Premium Fuels Do You Use?

I live in the middle of a big city, so gas is laughably higher than outer areas.

I normally use QT, which is a Top Tier fuel provider, and is a lot cheaper, but... It's QT.

Historically, I've been a lover of Chevron, but now, (mostly due to advertising). I've been hunting Shell stations when out in the burbs. I know Shell is great gas, so is Chevron. Never any issues with QT gas, but wonder if it really is as good.

Yes, most gas comes from the same distributors, but additives are "supposedly" added in at some point in the chain. I do know off brand stations have fuel without much detergent. With turbos, I'm more sensitive to branded gas.

Any opinions on your fuels?

I've followed these threads and the "information" seems to reek of misinformation or poor information at the least. I haven't seen any independent testing that would make me believe one stations 91 is significantly different than another, only that older fuel and fuel with more debris is obviously not as good. As always, with a turbo car, buy highest octane that is readily available. 91 is usually plenty high. The hotter/harder the environment, the more important this usually is, but cars these days pull timing by themselves if they sense knock anyways.

Chevron engineers developed the techron techroline additive that ALL gas companies use. My friends husband worked on this. I'd say chevron is probably #1 for this reason and then Mobil/Shell etc. I've ran Mobil for years on my other cars and go to one or the other at fill up time

In Canada Chevron has a 94 which has no ethanol. Expensive but it is good fuel. Shell 93 which also has no ethanol. In Washington state where I travel quite a bit, I usually look for Shell V-Power.

94? We can only dream. There's one station near my office that has 100 racing unleaded but at like $9/gallon not very worth it.

For top tier, Shell V-Power.

Typically Shell and Chevron, but since premium gas in Nor Cal is $4.19/gallon (60 cents + more than regular at those stations), I now get my gas at Costco where it's a mere $3.60/gal for premium.

We have 93 here in Atlanta; had it in Birmingham too, but 94??

I'd give anything for gas with no Ethanol. Shit basically turns into cotton candy in a gas tank. I know modern cars are made to handle it, but my Sthl Backpack blower, weed trimmer, and lawn mower are sticky as hell with all that corn syrup in it. I use 93 in the small engines to combat this and it is somewhat effective. If I had a boat, I'd be pissed.

A bit shocked at all the Costco use since it's not Top Tier. Does Costco advertise a detergent, or do you just think it doesn't matter?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm just anal about these sort of things. I'm bullish about my Castrol Synthetic oil, car shampoo, and other detail products, and most crazy about tires.

Seem to have gone overboard for my gasoline too. Using QT (just a convenience store chain that is cheap but committed to so called "guaranteed gas"), was a big stretch for me, as I didn't have it in Alabama. I do know QT gas is always fresh. Each station I go to are overflowing with customers; which is one reason I like it other than being cheap in the city.

Again, I'm a lifelong Chevron guy and am now embracing Shell. Really don't touch anything else.

For those new to the brand who are reading this, the fuel is important. Do not try to save a buck by getting just Plus 89 octane, as these are high performance engines; even the cute little 4 banger!

I use the Chevron 94 with no ethanol in my lawn mower too. Now, it never gums up or gets any varnish in the carb.

Whatever local station that's convenient and has good prices. IMO, Top Tier is marketing BS and even if it is worthwhile, the advantages in the additives are minor. By the way, I've had this attitude since I've leased BMW's starting in 2007 and never had an issue.
