Corner Amber lights no longer on with headlights?
Before I went to the dealership, whenever I turned on my parking lights, the corner Amber lights would be on. I like this so when I drive in the fog or at dusk, I can make sure people see me and I think that helps visibility of my car to others and prevents stupid pulling out in front of me, etc.
After taking the car to the dealership where they fixed a rough idle issue, the corner Amber lights don't come on anymore when turning on only the parking lights, or even with headlights on. Does anyone know how to change this back? Thanks in advance... |

Well--the corner amber lights are the parking lights, so something is definitely wrong if they are not coming on when the light switch is in the parking light position.

But the blink when I turn on the turning signals so the lights aren't malfunctioning.
Ok I will take into the dealership to see if they can correct the coding. Thanks! |

dealer probably did an update and it is set for EU region by default and did not code the NAR specs.

OP, I just had my car come back from the dealer, they did a DME update, and now my amber light are gone.
I'm SUPER happy, because I wanted to code them off, its so ugly. I won't complain :lol

They can be coded off an on. there is a function in the programming that will allow them to set it to activ. this is pretty standard and your BMW dealer should know about that feature. The question we should be asking is why did BMW decide to code them off completely by default? there has to be some underlying logic in it. Maybe they were trying to prevent a premature failure of the LEDs or something like that?

Those people pulling out in front of you probably wonder why your lights aren't on. LMAO

My daytime running white rings are always on, but I just always want more lights just in case. You never can underestimate the stupidity of drivers around here...

Really?! I just had a DME update as well, so maybe mine are gone too. I'll have to take a look tonight.

They are required to be on by US law. However, they're ugly. If they're no longer on, count it as a plus!

actually its illegal to drive with just your parking lights on....improper use. They're only supposed to be used while parking on the side of the road at night or in poor conditions such as rain or snow, hence the name "parking lights"

before wiper laws and drl the marker lights were used in rain and dusk to MARK vehicle width and location on a road. on european vehicles there are features which turn the marker lights into parking lights by moving the indicator stalk to the up or down position while parked.
these laws are antiquated and have not been updated and similar ones are what keep laser headlights and other forms of matrix headlights from being available in the NAR.
