228 threw itself in park!

When parking this morning, I realized I probably needed to straighten out a bit. I opened the door to check the white line, and did not close it all the way before I started slowly backing up to straighten out. Then BAM, there was such a jolt I thought I had hit something. I noticed the car was now in park and it would not let me change gears. Thankfully the dashboard gave the message, something along the lines of "close the door before you drive, idiot". I guess this is a good safety feature but had I been going faster, it would have been pretty rough on the tranny.

Yes I discovered this rude alert myself just the other day. I'm hoping it just hits the brake rather than jamming it into park but that is sure what it feels like.

Nope...mine goes into park. Wish i could override it. I like to back up with the door open but now I just roll the window down and hang my head out

I remember the first time that happened to me in my 328i. Scared the shit out of me! Just another reason to choose a manual over the automatic.

Good to know I'm in good company. Scared the shit out of me too. Would love a manual but had to give it up due to stop and go traffic.

This feature drives me nuts. I like having the door a bit sometimes when parking in tricky areas. I wonder if there is a way to code it out.

this won't happen as long as your seat belt is on!

Funny, mine doesn't do this at all. I tried today with my belt on thinking that was it, then tried it with my belt off and I could still roll with the door open.

Mine goes into neutral... I don't think it's ever put itself in park.
