Am I missing something?
Noticed something this afternoon and wanted to know if parts are flying off my car or if BMW threaded this piece for a reason (just to right of engine cover)...

I am taking a nap. I'll keep trying for a few more minutes before I'll go and check.
Stop spooking people at nap time!

Its for servicing the engine. A threaded hook (tow hook works) threads in there to hold the engine up if say removing the front subframe or motor mount or having to lift the engine.
You are not missing anything |

You are welcome.
I dug through some old pics so you get an idea. Found an old picture of an engine job I was doing, you can see the hook thread in. We use an engine brace across the strut tower area and then it chains to the hook to hold the engine up when nothing is supporting it underneath. |

Nice! Makes me feel much better. I am chasing down an issue right now that is making the revs bounce when disengaging the clutch. The revs fall down to 500rpm and then bounce back up to normal idle. Any ideas? Vacuum leak? Issue with TPS or rev match? My dealer does not want to address the issue because there are no codes and car is operating fine.
