Warranty - In service date

Hey Guys!

I just purchased a 2012 F30 335i with 39,875 miles on it. I am the second owner and I purchased it from a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership. According to the Carfax it still has 11 months of warranty left. The Carfax shows that it was first sold and registered on 06/18/2012 -- would this be the in service date?

If anything, I'll just call BMW tomorrow to verify.

Thanks,
Anthony

I would say yes - the in service date is normally the day that the vehicle was first sold and registered.

Assuming the CarFax is accurate, that would be the original in-service date. But confirming with BMW would be wise.

^ this.

CarFax means squat. Don't rely on this service for 100% accuracy to decide on a car.

BMW can give you the in service date but it is the day it is first sold.

If the car was a demo or a loaner the in-service date can be three months or more before the retail sale date.

Carfax is accurate with regards to the date of initial registration, as that's gleaned from state DMV data bases, but the original owner might have driven around for days or even weeks on temporary plates before he registered it. Only BMW and the original selling dealer know when he took delivery.

Very true, here in CO we get 60 days to complete the registration. And as was mentioned, if it was a demo that would change things as well.

I was referring more to the crash/repair history which is what most people are looking for when they purchase a car..not necessarily the day in service unless it's a warranty question. In this instance (crashes reported), CarFax is lacking. If a car is wrecked and fixed by the owner and not reported, it isn't in any database, etc. Even if it is run through insurance, Carfax' record is spotty at best. Best bet is BMW for most information

Carfax reports what's on record. When I sold a car a few years back the prospective buyer did a Carfax based on the fact that the free preliminary report showed fourteen entries.
After he ponied up the fee he was rewarded with the full report that showed the dates of the initial registration, six renewals and seven state inspections.

I called and confirmed with BMW that it is valid until 6/28/2016 or 10,000 more miles!

Good to hear and congrats on the car. I just did something similar (CPO 2012 F30 335i) and am really enjoying the experience. Hope yours gives you good service and lots of smiles!

Don't forget to call BMW and get the Assist set up with your name, details, and preferred service center. Since it's under warranty, you should still have free access to the Assist features.
